There is little doubt that the Forum search could be improved but it does work if you learn how to use it.
Here are the basic instructions:

Search for keywords:
  • Place + in front of a word which you want found.
  • Place - in front of a word which you do not want found.
  • Put a list of words separated by | into brackets {} if only one of the words must be found.
  • Use * as a wildcard for partial matches.
  • Use + and or - in combination with * to expand the search results!
  • You can "drill down" by searching within a set of results. Look for the "Search These Results" field / box.
If you learn how to combine the search wildcards, you will successfully find what you are looking for. Lornegaetz' method of using Google advanced search is also a good, alternate method to try, see Tips below.

TIP FOR SUCCESSFUL SEARCH !

 search tool is really painful

I was searching for "+usb +raid" and I got the Long Sentence Of Death : "The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words."
Then  I searched "+usb* +raid*" and I found what I was looking for

I have found the best technique is to type your keywords into Google and then add:

keyword1 keyword2 site:https://www.xigmanas.com/forums/

I use this technique on other boards I contribute to as well. Google rocks.
