No longer boots with 2 data drives

Odd issue - my backup box - SuperMicro X7SBE no longer boots if both ZFS disks are connected.

It boots fine with no data drives or either of two data drives but not both.

Any ideas what the cause might be?

I already tried to move the drives around, reseating the cables - it boots with either connected to either data cable but not when both connected.

ZFS / BSD dont like it when drives are hot swapped, right? So I don't think I should try that. Or maybe I will. It's only my backup box.

If anyone is curious or finds this via search with similar issues here is my hack solution:

Boot the box with one data drive, once at the main menu connect more data drives & run my rsync scripts to backup.

Done this a couple times, hot swapping seems to be ok.

Hi, sorry for a bit very late here.

Just to tell that I had that same X7SBE mobo here and never had issues wen it was my main server with an X3370(95W) and 8GB ECC, with 6 drives in RAIDZ2, plus 2 USB3.0 for the OS mirror(RootOnZFS), the server mobo was replaced and repurposed for an 1U Firewall duty with an E7600(65W) and 4GB non-ECC.

It died in late 2017 and replaced with a spare X7SBL-LN2, but will be replaced soon with a ThinClient for the Firewall duty.

Very great and robust legacy Supermicro motherboards for say the least while they working. ;)

Regards

a bios battery failure was the cause of similar results [default boot order]
