Dell R510 with Perc H200 - 8 Bays

Hi

I just updated by box to a Dell R5100 with a Perc H200 controller. After upgrading the firmware for both the motherboard and the controller I was able to get it to recognize the drives (4 TB) in 7 out of the 8 bays.

The bay that does not work for Xigmanas is not broken "hardware" as it does boot with Windows Server from that bay when I tested it.

I currently do not need access to this bay but want to figure out the issue so that it is available for the future. I checked what I could in the bios and wonder if could be an IRQ issue or something similar that is stopping this disk from being recognized.

Any ideas in what could be causing this bay to not be seen by Xigmanas?

Thanks

Could it be the same as this issue with Freenas that was caused a bug within the program?

Have you tried the same setup eg. with a windows system ? Did you then find all 8 disks ?

Hi Appollo

I was able to boot in windows from the bay that does not get seen by Xigmanas. I did not want to boot up with my data drives in for the windows boot up.

Thanks

Hi nasrocks, HERE is another old but similar case for an M1015.

I've had odd issues in the past(NAS4Free 10.x) with one drive Model recognition with identical drives and it-mode/mps driver, but HBA BIOS reporting correctly.

However if you are able to test from FreeBSD 11/12 Live Media, and experience the same results, then I also think that this is definitely related to firmware/driver or backplane/expander issue under FreeBSD.

Regards

Hi Jose

"I've had odd issues in the past(NAS4Free 10.x) with one drive Model recognition with identical drives and it-mode/mps driver, but HBA BIOS reporting correctly." - this sounds exactly like what it happening.

Thanks for the suggestion about the Live Media. I am a little cautious about my data. Booting up to a live linux media should not impact my data drives correct?

I also have windows server 2013 that I can boot up from- could this impact my drives?

Thanks

Hi nasrocks, not to worry about booting of Live FreeBSD media, it is harmless as long as you don't explicitly try to format the drives, play with the dd command and such, is all about to just boot of latest FreeBSD 11/12 and verify if either commands "sysctl -n kern.disks" and "camcontrol devlist" does list the 8 drives accordingly.
