Upgrade from 9.2.0.1 - Shigawire (revision 972) to Latest

#1

Post by packrfanfw »

Hello,
I've had my NAS4Free running for a couple of years with no problems. I built it using some left over parts. I now have some more powerful newer parts and I would like to rebuild and update to latest. I have a couple of questions.

1. If I backup my current configuration... can I restore with different hardware (mobo, processor, ram) and pick up where I left off?
2 If answer to #1 is no and I do a complete rebuild with newest NAS4Free version, will the new build recognize my existing HDDs or will I have to rediscover them?

Thanks for any and all help. I tried searching, but couldn't find answers to my specific questions.

1. Yes if the hardware is supported. you might have to reconfigure the network card and clear the disk config.

use a different usb stick to test it so you can always reinsert the old stick to go back.
Nas4Free 11.1.0.4.4517. Supermicro X10SLL-F, 16gb ECC, i3 4130, IBM M1015 with IT firmware. 4x 3tb WD Red, 4x 2TB Samsung F4, both GEOM AES 256 encrypted.

Hi everybody,

just found this thread and wanted to make sure that my old installation can also be upgraded to the latest NAS4Free version (11.0.0.4.4303). Since there has been WannaCry and now SambaCry I find it necessary to touch my trusty NAS and do an upgrade. So far the machine has been running with an embedded installation (this extra memory stick on the motherboard) using ZFS for the HDDs.

I've already downloaded the configuration under System>Save/Restore (some XML file) and enabled firmware updates. Can I be sure that after I've uploaded the file "NAS4Free-x64-embedded-11.0.0.4.4303.img.xz" to my NAS's web GUI that everything will work as it has before? Obviously it will work better and safer, but you know what I mean. There is a lot of data on my NAS that must not be lost by this upgrade.

Thanks for any clarifications.

Felix Riesterer.

I also have an "embedded (USB OS) install of: 9.1.0.1 - Sandstorm (revision 636) with ZFS storage.

Is there a link to the proper method to upgrade this older version?

Thanks you for the reply raulfg3.

Will I need to do any special steps with my ZFS raid?

Is there a "Step-By-Step" instruction for a fresh install? Is that the "LiveUSB" install?
