Tried to upgrade from 11.0.0.4 to latest version, now can't restore config

#1

Post by VK5MTM » 10 Sep 2018 01:03

Hi

As the title says, I tried to upgrade from NAS4Free 11.0.0.4 to 11.2.0.4 - Omnius (revision 5975) which I have now discovered has been renamed to XigmaNAS. I tried to do a firmware update via the webGUI and backed up my config via an encrypted backup first.

The upgrade seemed to go through fine but upon restarting I discovered the IP address had changed. Once I logged in (using default creds) I also discovered that none of my config had come across post-upgrade so I tried to do a restore however I get the following error message: XML error: no xigmanas object found!

Does anyone know if there is a way to restore my config?

Many thanks in advance.

Same for me. Did the backup config in nas4free 11.1. and tried to restore on Xigma 11.2.0.4 (5975) with the same error "XML error: no xigmanas object found!".

edit your config.xml and change the start and end tag from nas4free to xigmanas, then restore.

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<nas4free>
...
</nas4free>
to

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<xigmanas>
...

Hello everyone
I have the same problem . The config.xml file in the new installation, already has the tag <sigmanas>. On the other hand, I have the copy of the configuration I made from nas4free, which is called config-nas4free.local-20180904121346.gz, with a protection key. I do not know what I should do, if I try to edit this last file or what to do. Greetings and thanks

Store your encrypted configuration backup on your XigmaNAS box, i.e. /mnt/pool/config-nas4free.local-20180904121346.gz
Goto Tools > Command and enter the below PHP command:

Code: Select all

echo file_put_contents('/mnt/pool/config-nas4free.local-20180904121346.xml',config_decrypt('YOUR SECRET PASSWORD',file_get_contents('/mnt/pool/config-nas4free.local-20180904121346.gz')));
Your decrypted backup configuration file is /mnt/pool/config-nas4free.local-20180904121346.xml

If you can't use php at the moment, then alternatively users can decrypt using plain openssl from FreeBSD, Linux or OS's supporting OpenSSL, just replace the file name accordingly.

If file is zipped e.g. filename.gz, then use:

Code: Select all

# gunzip encrypted_file.gz && openssl base64 -d -aes-256-cbc -in encrypted_file -out config.xml
enter aes-256-cbc decryption password:
#
If you already unzipped the file, then use:

Code: Select all

# openssl base64 -d -aes-256-cbc -in encrypted_file -out config.xml
enter aes-256-cbc decryption password:
#
Enter the file password wen prompted and your good to go.

Thank you very much for your responses. I have managed to unpack the file at my back. xml and I tried several things (changing the tag from nas4free to xigmanas) ->
1 in the file conf delete the content and replace it with the content of myrespaldo.xml. When restarting again, the one of the clean installation appears.
2. Restore the modified myrespaldo.xml file after encrypting and compressing with 7zip .. Give error. I'm sure I do something wrong.

Once encrypted, (openssl base64 -d -aes-256-cbc -in encrypted_file -out config.xml) how do I restore it? Should I change the nas4free tag to xigmanas, as I did or leave it as it was? Anyway, I apologize for the inconvenience, but I have to recover the data ..
regards

Please provide the information about your platform.
The platform string should show embedded or full but not LiveUSB or LiveCD.

Restoring config.xml should always be performed using the WebGUI. In order to manually restore the configuration file you need to configure ssh access and some magic commands.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Hello,
On the French forum there was a similar problem that was solved by changing on the new installation only the language, if the French language was not selected the restoration of the configuration was impossible.
Note that you probably do not have to re-encrypt and compress your config.xml for restore, just do not enter a password.

Yes effectively . My platform was live usb. My mistake However, when trying to install again I found at home a pendrive with the latest version of Nas4free, and take the opportunity to recover my data. Later, when I have time, I will change to xigmanas. So, I can only thank the users of the forum for their effort to help me. Greatnesses of the free code ...

Hello:

I have done the upgrade from 11.0.0.4 to THE MOST RECEN VERSION (11.2.04 rev.6005) from a Live USB using the UPGRADE EMBEDDED option and everything went flawlessly and whitout problems or warnings.

No need to use the config backup and neither needed to edit and change anything on a file.

I hope this could help to anyone. (And excuse me if the info is redundant, and my poor english)

Welcome to the forum, please keep an eye to your setup, you upgraded from the minimum supported/tested version.

I wan to add some note in order to warn users from further issues trying to upgrade from the minimum specified version from the README file.

NAS4Free users, before any upgrade, please READ THIS FIRST and follow recommendations, before get stuck in future due partition size changes etc.
