Problem after upgrading ...

#1

Post by drnicolas » 17 Sep 2018 17:17

I yesterday upgraded from Nas4Free 11.something.5275 or so to the latest XigmaNAS 6005.

The upgrade went fine, but I see 3 messages of the same type:
Device for mountpoint vStorage/externalVMs missing or config changed!

The named mountpoint is a ZFS volume. What happened?

How can I solve this problem ?

If your former version was 11.0.4.4812 (taken from your signature) you should perform a new installation instead of upgrading because the partition layout was changed.

README & CHANGELOG 11.2.0.4 - Omnius

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ!!!

Do NOT upgrade servers lower than NAS4Free 11.1.0.4 series
==========================================================
Upgrading XigmaNAS® "Embedded" or "Full" from any version below NAS4Free 11.1.0.4.xxxx by
webgui or from LiveCD/USB could be problematic!!!
Please download and save your config from WebGUI first and backup all files from the second data partition
if used on the install destination. Now you can perform a reinstall from LiveCD/USB, after installation you
can restore your previous saved config. Enjoy using your upgraded server.

Okay, I did as instructed, installed XigmaNAS new instead of upgrading and restored the config.xml.
Before doing this, I changed inside config.xml from "<nas4free>" to "<xigmanas>"

After rebooting - still the same.
018.09.25 19:33:04 ERROR Device for mountpoint vStorage/externalVMs missing or config changed!
2018.09.25 19:33:05 ERROR Device for mountpoint vStorage/swap missing or config changed!
2018.09.25 19:33:05 ERROR Device for mountpoint vStorage/testVM missing or config changed!

All the missing mountpoints mentioned are ZFD-Volumes.

Any idea ?

EDIT:
I can see that those Volumes do not have a mountpoint. But how to get them mounted?

Please verify that
- zfs volumes are listed under /dev/zvol/vStorage.
- mount points are configured properly in Disks > Mount Point > Management.

- Okay, all the volumes are listed at the path you mentioned.
- I already tried DIsks-> Mount point-> add. I cannot choose any of these zfs volumes. Only HDD,HAST,ISO,own device
SOo far no solution

If there's nothing listed in Disks > Mount Points > Management - could it be that you're running a script to mount the volumes?
If you want to mount ZFS volumes via Disks > Mount Points > Management you must choose "Custom Device" and enter the full path to the volume:
disks_mount_edit.php.png

Update: This is the error message from log:
mount: /dev/zvol/vStorage/externalVMs: No such file or directory

Indeed, in vStorage there are only 3 Files named "externalVMs" and so on with 0Bytes size

The messages you saw came from Extended GUI extension, since v0.7 there is a check for missing devices implemented, refering to -> Benachrichtigung über defekte Festplatte and also problems I had with one servers power supply.

eGUI checks the device configs and appropriate mount points and if the are problems detected throws the above mentioned error messages.

If your former version was 11.0.4.4812 (taken from your signature) you should perform a new installation instead of upgrading because the partition layout was changed.
Can you please give detailed information concerning the changed partition layout or point me to the desired information?
Currently I am running 11.1.0.4 - Atomics (revision 4619) as embedded install on USB in a 2GB freebsd partition (manually resized long ago ;)).
