Post by JoseMR » 13 Oct 2018 14:43

Here is a test LiveUSB build of the Latest XigmaNAS-x64-11.2.0.4.6026 with UEFI/BIOS boot support, any testing/feedback is much appreciated.

Save XigmaNAS Config before anything else.

Instructions:
1: Download and Unzip the file.gz.
2: Write the image with your favorite Bootable USB Creator, or simply dd the file.img if already experienced with dd command.
3: Boot and perform a new installation from the created USB stick.

Hello the test build can be found at LiveUSB-GPT with UEFI Here

Note: 1GB USB drives are the minimum recommended for this installer test image.

Hi,
I used this testing version(XigmaNAS-x64-11.2.0.4.6026) and boot normally, but it failed at another step.
Here is my steps:
1. Boot normal by my USB drive with new XigmaNAS version
2. Choose '9' to Install/Upgrade
3. Choose '4' Upgrade 'Full' OS from LiveCD/LiveUSB
4. XigmaNAS detected on device 'ada0s1a', choose 'Yes'
5. Console showed "Failed to detect any CDROM/USB drive"

You mentioned "perform a new installation". Would this testing version can't upgrade older version?
Or I run a new installation and restore config is a safer and better way than upgrade?

Hi thank you for the through testing and the detailed information, I will have to verify and test this Upgrade procedure on the Legacy Full UFS Platforms indeed, though the LiveUSB-GPT mainly targets users with UEFI hardware to be able to boot and install from, the LiveUSB-MBR will still remains for older hardware.

P.S. If you are targeting for Full Platforms, maybe you can take a look at the newer Full RootOnZFS Platform which can be easily Upgraded from the WebGUI plus much more features/benefits. ;)

Regards

I upgraded my XigmaNAS with this version(XigmaNAS-x64-LiveUSB-GPT-11.2.0.4.6123) and everything is great! Thank you!
By the way, is it possible to upgrade from FULL to RootOnZFS?

Hi, thank you for sharing your experience with LiveUSB-GPT installer, this new install option will be available for the next release.

As for converting full to RootOnZFS, is not possible with the LiveMedia but not impossible, though it can be done from the CLI by hand.

However it would be easier to save the config and/or any custom scripts/files residing in the boot disk and reinstalling as RootOnZFS, then manually install/setup the extra packages, also a custom PostInit script for automation may be useful for this scenario decrease downtime during reinstall.

I tested on an Asus H110M-K the installation of version 6128 in uefi boot mode from the LiveUSB-GPT for an embedded version and everything worked perfectly.

Tested on Asrock C2550D4i and C2750D4i.
Just enter the boot uefi parameter with the boot uefi device.
Recognition is not automatic.
