Joining a Active Directory domain is as simple as it seems right?

I was trying to join a AD today and I stopped when I started to see

Apr 21 15:51:57 nas4free nmbd[4807]: Attempting to become domain master browser on workgroup MYWORKGROUP on subnet 192.168.100.29

I dont want nas4free to become a domain master browser.......NOT BY A LONG SHOT.

I disabled the active directoy section just in case....

(Also logs show it is still TRYING to become a domain master browser, Im rebooting now to see if it stops it just in case)

How do I join a Active Directory (WS2012R2)?

That depends on what you want to do. If you want people to log into the GUI with their AD accounts, you need to join under Account Access. If you just want to share files with AD credentials, you do that under Services CIFS. That is also where you define browsmaster behavior.

I cant join this nas4free server as a active directory member? I dont want it to be a domain controller and/or a domain master browser.

In Microsoft world, joining a "computer" in a domain does a lot of things. It gets user access authentication from AD. It gets management and policy from AD. And it gets share level user lists from AD.

In nas4free, this things are separate. I have not even tried to make it a domain controller, so I do not know if that is possible. But it can share files / be a browser master via samba. And it can get user credentials for login via LDAP.

So, again, what do you want it to do with your AD users? Log into the web gui for management? Share files? Both?
