Speed slowdown from 90mb/s to 0 and back,

#1

Post by m119k » 08 Apr 2019 22:50

Just built one of these.

Asus PH61 ITX, Celeron, 8GB ram, 2x 8TB, 1x 1TB.

Trying to copy fill up one of the 8TB units and the speed seems to alternate between 0 and 90mb/s rarely holding any consistent speeds.

How do I start diagnosing this?

Cheers

My experience is that when I copy from/to my XigmaNAS to/from Windows 10 laptop the speed showed by Windows 10 File Explorer varies depending on the particular file size. The rule is: small files - low speed, large files - high speed. It doesn't matter how the Windows 10 laptop is connected to the LAN - by Ethernet cable or WiFi.

Have had a read of various thread, tried different buffers and various suggestions in the thread to not much avail. It is coming from a usb 3 drive in windows.

My freenas came back to life, started copying from there instead via windows and it seemed to hold a good speed with little drop outs for a while, but is now doing the same thing. Tried disabling windows firewall for a second to see if that helped, didn't change.

Tried a different cable, its all going into the same switch.

Now copying files from one drive to another internally via a windows machine and it was fine for a while seeings 130mb/s, but seems to be dropping down again.
