NFS Client in NAS4Free Issue with mounting remote NFS share

#1

Post by andrewwong2000 » 09 Sep 2016 15:40

I've been using NAS4Free for a few years now.

With the current version (10.3.0.3 - Pilingitam (revision 2870)), if I do showmount / rpcinfo to my QNAP box from my Debian/OSX machines I have no problems seeing exports, and mounting NFS shares.

With the NAS4Free box running OK .. I can ssh into NAS4Free and can ping QNAP etc, rpcinfo times out, showmount takes about 30-45 seconds to produce the export list from the QNAP and mount_nfs just sits there retrying.. and timing out.

Can someone suggest why this is happening ? There are no firewalls running.

Broken DNS, reverse dns missing or not matching forward ?

Thanks for the tip.

I've set up a DNS server locally so I can resolve names forwards and backwards.

Still no joy.

No such delays if I run if from OSX.

Does all resolvers point to your DNS-server ?

Yes.. the inverse and forward name resolution is working fine. Here's the weird thing.

My Nas4free and Debian are running on an ESX6 server and both can't mount the QNAP for NFS.
But my OSX MacBook Pro and MacMini can mount the QNAP so that rules out the HP Managed Switch I use (Procurve).

I'm doing my rsync backups using the MacMini via GigE .. much slower, but its working.

So it seems something to do with the VMWare Host/Guests doesn't work with NFS.
I disabled my trunked 2 x 1GigE links to the switch just in case that might have caused an issue.

Wireshark seems to be next step.

I am confused about the setup. Are you running a nas4free under VMware ?
