[SOLVED] Not loading after storm

#1

Post by silentpro » 14 Aug 2017 20:49

I inherited this project from someone else...long story short there was a storm last night & when my customers came in this morning all data on their nas was missing. After rebooting they can see the drive, but all data is still gone.

When booting the box that has nas4free, I get a warning, a fatal error, then a console menu.

If anyone could help please....

Warning: require_once(config.inc): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /etc/rc.banner on line 42.

Fatal Error: require_once(): Failed opening required 'config.inc' (include _path='.:/usr/local/share/pear') in /etc/rc.banner on line 42

I guess an easier question I could ask is...

How do I reinstall nas4free & not overwrite all the data that is currently on the drive?

it looks like that is a full install. have you saved the config?

the answer would be to install the embedded version (full is not recommended) to a usb drive and restore the config.

otherwise you have to recreate the config yourself.

Thanks for the reply...

From what I can see the config isn't saved anywhere.

Is there documentation on restoring or recreating the config?

A configuration file is in this form:

config-nas4free.local-20161007055524.xml Unencrypted
config-nas4free.local-20161007055524.gz Encrypted (in this case you need the password)

Recreate a configuration without knowing hardware or storage (software raid or ZFS pool) nor the shares takes much precautions not to lose the data.

Thanks.

Here's the bigger problem though... I can't get past the console menu.

How can I find that file if it just keeps looping back to the console menu no matter what I do?

The first information to know is in the bios: is it an x86 or x64 system?
Then you need to retrieve an image to create a live usb

https://www.nas4free.org/wiki/doku.php?id=faq:0037

x86 : http://linuxtracker.org/index.php?page= ... aa8b8143ee

X64: https://sourceforge.net/projects/nas4fr ... .0.4.4517/

Boot on live usb, connect to the webguy, go to Disks> Management> Disk Management and import disk configuration this will give you the number of disks, their file system etc.
Make a screenshot and come back to the forum.

Oups !! Almost duplicates!

On the one I can't access, I'm unsure because I can't access it.

On the USB, which is where the screenshot above came from, I just loaded from unetbootin.

It would have to give us the hardware configuration of this Nas, that would help a little more.

can I tell what version of nas4free I have by the config file?

I found a config.xml in the /conf dir. Is that the config file everyone is talking about?

Back up this file in a safe place, yes it is the configuration file, if it is not too damaged, you will be able to find there useful information of configuration of this nas.

The version of Nas4Free that I ask you is that of the live usb that you use to boot on this nas.

Moreover we still do not know if this system is X86 or X64

It's an old Dell Optiplex 755. From what I've read that model is an x64, but I also read that those don't make full use of 64bit tech... So unless anyone else knows specifically about that board.... I'm Not really sure other than what I read.

It has 2 500gb HD's on it. From what I can tell N4F was installed on one, the 2nd is their shared drive.

All intel core duo are X64, so you can use a version 11 to boot (Live USB or CD) and import your data disc.
Remember to save the old configuration file.

Thanks, good to know!

So if I just put my old config file in the live USB drive, it should all go back to normal, yes?

It's already better.
In disk management, at the very bottom, you have the ability to import software raid discs, test this option to refine the knowledge of this Nas.

I swapped the config file before I read this, & voila all is back online!

So my plan is backup everything on there, then upgrade the older full copy on the HD.

With the error it was throwing, would there be any issues upgrading the old to the new?

What I wanted to say is that you can not upgrade from an old version (v10) to a v11 directly from the webgui.
It is necessary to do a clean installation of the V11 and recover the old configuration
