This is my procedure to setup network interface aggregation. This was achieved after quite a bit of googling and trial and error. Also, it is important to NOT reboot FreeNAS until the end of the procedure. If you reboot at any time before the end you will lose the network connection and be unable to connect with the WebGUI and you will have to use the console to reassign the interfaces. However, by following this procedure without rebooting (until the end) the WebGUI will stay connected throughout and no console access will be necessary.

Always start by saving the FreeNAS config just in case. Also, for the LACP protocol to work the network switch/hub needs to support LACP. If the switch/hub doesn't support LACP then one of the other options in step 3 (aggregation Protocol) may work better (eg, Roundrobin or Loadbalance).

Anyway, here's how to set it up:-

Add the second network card to the FreeNAS box and then bootup FreeNAS.
In the WebGUI, goto Network --> Interface Management and click the "+" button to add the new interface. This should leave you with two entries in the Management tab (LAN & OPT1). When done click the Save button but DO NOT REBOOT.
In Network --> Interface Management click the LAGG tab. Click the "+" button to add an interface. Interface should already be called "lagg0". In Aggregation Protocol select LACP Link Aggregation Control Protocol. In Ports select both interfaces. In Description just enter any name to identify the new aggregated adapter. Then click the ADD button.
Go back to the Management tab and the "+" button should now be visible because there is now a new adapter ready to be added. Click the "+" button to add the LAGG interface. This should add an interface to the list labelled OPT2 with the network port column as lagg0 followed by the name you gave it in brackets.
Now, still in the Management tab, using the drop downs rearrange the interface order so that the LAN interface is now the lagg0 and the two original interfaces are OPT1 and OPT2. Now click SAVE.
Double check that the interfaces are listed as LAN = lagg0, OPT1 = (first physical adapter) and OPT2 = (second physical adapter).
Click Network --> LAN and check that the IP address etc is correct for your network.
Reboot FreeNAS. Once rebooted check connection with the WebGUI.

If, for any reason this doesn't work and you loose the network connection then you will need to use the console to re-assign the LAN interface to one of the physical adapters and set the IP address. This will re-establish the network connection to allow the WebGUI to connect again.

Note: This will not work unless you have an managed switch who could handle LACP like shown on an UniFi Switch as an example.
