Config Issues

Post by Onichan »

When using the GUI to generate the SNMP config file it causes an error when trying to start the service. It says
Jan 19 20:45:12 nas snmpd[20837]: error in config file
Jan 19 20:45:12 nas snmpd[20837]: in file /var/etc/snmpd.config line 19
Jan 19 20:45:12 nas snmpd[20837]: nas: hostname nor servname provided, or not known

Which that line has
begemotSnmpdPortStatus.[$(host)].161 = 1

If I manually enter my IP address instead of [$(host)] it works fine. I have my NAS hostname set to "nas" and duel NICs if that makes a difference.

Also I am getting repeating errors when I modify the config and manually start it which are:
Jan 19 21:14:05 nas last message repeated 10 times
Jan 19 21:04:05 nas last message repeated 14 times
Jan 19 20:54:05 nas snmpd[20850]: hrSWInstalledTable: stat("/var/db/pkg") failed: No such file or directory

Oh so I was looking back into this as I wanted to start using SNMP and my problem was my hostname did not resolve locally on the nas. So the service wouldn't start. I just added a static DNS entry on my router for my NAS IP and that fixed it, but I think the bsnmpd shouldn't be using hostname and instead should either bind to the LAN Management IP or just bind to all.
