Data stale while higher system load?

#1

Post by spy0r » 05 Feb 2018 08:54

hi everybody,

i have a strange behaviour which i wanted to share with you and maybe find a solution. I have a NAS Box and a Proxmox Hypervisor. Every monday at 2am, i backup my VMs to a NFS share on the NAS with proxmox built in vzdump (backup/restore) tool. While this backup i get reproducible the following log entrys regarding to the UPS (APC Backup Pro 500):

Code: Select all

Feb 5 02:03:16 stef-nas4free upssched-cmd: Communications with the UPS apc@localhost are established
Feb 5 02:03:16 stef-nas4free upsmon[77849]: Communications with UPS apc@localhost established
Feb 5 02:03:12 stef-nas4free upssched-cmd: Communications with the UPS apc@localhost are lost
Feb 5 02:03:12 stef-nas4free upsd[77705]: UPS [apc] data is no longer stale
Feb 5 02:03:11 stef-nas4free last message repeated 2 times
Feb 5 02:03:01 stef-nas4free upsmon[77849]: Poll UPS [apc@localhost] failed - Data stale
Feb 5 02:02:56 stef-nas4free upsmon[77849]: Communications with UPS apc@localhost lost
Feb 5 02:02:56 stef-nas4free upsmon[77849]: Poll UPS [apc@localhost] failed - Data stale
Feb 5 02:02:55 stef-nas4free upsd[77705]: Data for UPS [apc] is stale - check driver
Feb 5 02:02:17 stef-nas4free upssched-cmd: Communications with the UPS apc@localhost are established
Feb 5 02:02:16 stef-nas4free upsmon[77849]: Communications with UPS apc@localhost established
Feb 5 02:02:12 stef-nas4free upssched-cmd: Communications with the UPS apc@localhost are lost
Feb 5 02:02:12 stef-nas4free upsd[77705]: UPS [apc] data is no longer stale
Feb 5 02:02:11 stef-nas4free last message repeated 3 times
Feb 5 02:01:55 stef-nas4free upsmon[77849]: Poll UPS [apc@localhost] failed - Data stale
Feb 5 02:01:50 stef-nas4free upsmon[77849]: Communications with UPS apc@localhost lost
Feb 5 02:01:50 stef-nas4free upsmon[77849]: Poll UPS [apc@localhost] failed - Data stale
Feb 5 02:01:49 stef-nas4free upsd[77705]: Data for UPS [apc] is stale - check driver
What could possibly go wrong here? I assume the UPS connection gets lost while high load on the NAS, but why?

Thanks for any hint!

Really nobody? Same messages today at the same time, while the same access via NFS:

Recently I had similar problems with my UPS. I don't know really what was the reason. But I am suspicious that it was related to network connection. I had some LAN cable problems - the network connection constantly changes between 1 Gbit and 100 Mbit and even disappears for a while. I changed the LAN cable and everything went fine. I really have no idea how the LAN conection may correlate with USB connected UPS.

probably, the problem is related to:

NIC & USB use same IRQ, revise assing in BIOS and change to other if possible to you.

eg: use for USB the IRQ of VGA because probably you do not have a VGA monitor attached to your NAS.
12.0.0.4 - BETA (revision 6625)+OBI on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 12x3TB disk in 3 vdev in RaidZ1 = 32TB Raw size only 22TB usable

I've digged in the NUT's documentation and have another idea - the upsd communicates with UPS by USB, but then the upsmon communicates with upsd using LAN interface on localhost. So may be LAN problems can affect the communication bettween two essential parts of NUT.
