HELP PLEASE usbhid-ups with Protocol 3016 SOLUTION NEEDED

#1

Post by radiogirl1984 » 15 Jul 2018 08:08

If anyone can help me, I'd me very grateful! I know there is someone smart in this forum who knows the secret sauce to solve this.

I've have version 11.1.0.4 - Atomics (revision 5321) up and running on a Dell 0GDG8Y. My issue is that I have a UPS that requires protocol 3016 on driver usbhid-ups [Tripp Lite SMART1500LCDT]. I have been fruitlessly trying to figure out some way to get it to work.

The usbhid-ups driver *is* part of NAS4Free's NUT, but, sadly, protocol 3016 is not found for any UPS's in the "list of available drivers". I can only get the dreaded Error Code 1 -- UPS is unavailable.
However the device is recognized when the USB port is hot plugged in:

Code: Select all

ugen1.7: <Tripp Lite TRIPP LITE UPS> at usbus1
uhid1 on uhub3
uhid1: <Tripp Lite TRIPP LITE UPS, class 0/0, rev 1.10/0.02, addr 7> on usbus1
So there *is* some low-level of "communication". Is there some what to get this UPS and NAS4Free to communicate?
- Some magic "Additional Parameter"?
- Some hack of a .conf file?

HELP!

Can you try putting productid=3016 in auxiliary parameters and check if it makes any difference?
My Nas

Hello ChriZathens: Thank You very much for your reply! I've given it a try, but no luck. "Error: the changes could not be applied (Error Code 1)."
For the record I also tried additional parameters, since this input is a bit of a black box to me:
-x productid=3016
-x "product id=3016"
protocol=3016
-x protocol=3016
-x "protocol=3016"
Any other magic in your wizard toolbox we can try?
Many Thanks, Radiogirl

could you please try the following configuration and feedback the result:
services_ups.php.png
Uninterruptible Power Supply: Enable
Mode: Master
Identifier: tripplite
Driver: usbhid-ups
Port: auto

Additional Parameters:
vendorid = 09ae
productid = 3016
desc = "Tripp Lite SMART1500LCDT"

Description: Tripp Lite SMART1500LCDT

If this doesn't work you should try to connect to a different USB port, i.e. USB 1.1 / USB 2.0.
This UPS seems to be known as a troublemaker: https://github.com/sdgathman/trippfix

Hi ms49434:
Very sorry to be so tardy in getting back. I have been traveling. Thank you again for your help!
Unfortunately I'm still getting the Error: the changes could not be applied (Error Code 1). I am not sure what you are suggesting for your second piece of advice: a different 'type' of USB port? How would I do that? My unit has 8 USBs, but I am pretty sure that they are all the same type. Thank you so much for clarifying.

Hi again ms49434. Just checking in. I am sure I am not the only person with this UPS, so I know others will find your help useful.

Please help me understand your last comment: are you suggesting I add a USB 1.0 card to my desk top and try connecting the UPS through that?
Very grateful for your help!

Guess this thread is dead. Just like every other on-line thread dealing with a UPS requiring protocol 3016. Shame.

I believe ms49434 is suggesting that you should check whether your board has different type of USB and connect it there
Many boards have usb 2.0 and usb 3.0 ports. Try switching between the two types and see how it goes
If there is only one type of usb on your board then you are out of luck (unless you are willing to try purchasing a pci-e to usb card or something)
Please keep in mind that Xigmanas (like almost everything else *nix out there ) uses NUT to connect to a UPS. If NUT supports a specific UPS it should work.
If some manufacturer decides to do something different than normal it is up to the NUT maintainers to decide whether it is worth the effort to try to support it

Sorry for the zombie arise, but if you are interested, I have a shell script to manage shutdowns without "UPSMON", all you need is a working NUT driver for your UPS, look at my sig for reference.
