Post by kfnas » 12 Jan 2015 12:07

Hello,

since upgrade to 9.3.0.2.1283, I have cosmetic? issues with upsd. Running towards APC AP9631 card over snnp v3 aes encrypted.. it worked till 9.2. version without such logs

Code: Select all

Jan 12 00:02:48 nas upsd[2015]: Data for UPS [apc] is stale - check driver
Jan 12 00:02:48 nas upsd[2015]: UPS [apc] data is no longer stale
Jan 12 00:08:08 nas upsd[2015]: Data for UPS [apc] is stale - check driver
Jan 12 00:08:08 nas upsd[2015]: UPS [apc] data is no longer stale
Jan 12 00:13:28 nas upsd[2015]: Data for UPS [apc] is stale - check driver
Jan 12 00:13:28 nas upsd[2015]: UPS [apc] data is no longer stale
Jan 12 00:18:48 nas upsd[2015]: Data for UPS [apc] is stale - check driver
Jan 12 00:18:48 nas upsd[2015]: UPS [apc] data is no longer stale
Jan 12 00:24:09 nas upsd[2015]: Data for UPS [apc] is stale - check driver
each 5 minutes upsd mean it was staled.

driver is: snmp-ups privProtocol=AES

aux parameters:
mibs=auto
privProtocol=AES
secLevel=authPriv
secName=***
authPassword=***
privPassword=***

any experiences?2015

Do you use Master mode?
Check the daemon log if upsd, upslog and upsmon startups are successful and the user login is ok, similar to this:

Code: Select all

Jan 12 06:24:13 	upsd[1864]: 	User root@127.0.0.1 logged into UPS [APCES550]
Jan 12 06:24:13 	upsmon[1903]: 	Startup successful
Jan 12 06:24:13 	upslog[1878]: 	Startup successful
Jan 12 06:24:13 	upsd[1864]: 	Startup successful
Jan 12 06:24:13 	upsd[1863]: 	Connected to UPS [APCES550]: usbhid-ups-APCES550
Jan 12 06:24:13 	upsd[1863]: 	listening on 127.0.0.1 port 3493
Jan 12 06:24:13 	upsd[1863]: 	listening on ::1 port 3493
Jan 12 06:24:13 	upsd[1863]: 	listening on 10.0.0.120 port 3493
Jan 12 06:24:13 	usbhid-ups[1862]: 	Startup successful
If not then try to remove the entries for AES, secXXX etc ... , restart the service and see what happens in the log.

hello crest,

since klog is enabled, had to restart the daemon so here is the output:

Code: Select all

Jan 12 12:38:54 nas upsd[38018]: mainloop: Interrupted system call
Jan 12 12:38:54 nas upsd[38018]: Signal 15: exiting
Jan 12 12:38:54 nas snmp-ups[38016]: Signal 15: exiting
Jan 12 12:38:56 nas snmp-ups[38197]: Startup successful
Jan 12 12:38:56 nas upsd[38198]: listening on ::1 port 3493
Jan 12 12:38:56 nas upsd[38198]: listening on 127.0.0.1 port 3493
Jan 12 12:38:56 nas upsd[38198]: Connected to UPS [apc]: snmp-ups-apc
Jan 12 12:38:56 nas upsd[38199]: Startup successful
Jan 12 12:38:56 nas upsmon[38112]: Poll UPS [apc@localhost] failed - Server disconnected
Jan 12 12:38:56 nas upsmon[38112]: Communications with UPS apc@localhost lost
Jan 12 12:38:56 nas upssched[38208]: Executing command: notify
Jan 12 12:38:56 nas upslog[38057]: Signal 15: exiting
Jan 12 12:38:56 nas upslog[38261]: Startup successful
Jan 12 12:38:57 nas upsmon[38112]: Signal 15: exiting
Jan 12 12:38:57 nas upsmon[38110]: upsmon parent: read
Jan 12 12:38:57 nas upsmon[38326]: Startup successful
Jan 12 12:38:57 nas upsd[38199]: User root@127.0.0.1 logged into UPS [apc]
and yes, I do use the master mode (otherweisse it is not possible to turn the snmp driver on)

there is nice output even when restarting the daemon, so the upsd is working, just "stalling?" Don't know how often is the ups pooled over snmp, since the ups itself sends also traps toward the nas4free host...

what I can admit is, that in previous 9.2. version I haven't had such messages but AES was enabled

Just as a background info, for what reason / why do you use a snmp driver?

the UPS is connected over the network module AP9631, which driver should I use instead of? (if the encryption would not be an concern)

Ok, didn't recognize the network module thing (wow, a rather expensive device ... :shock: ) but could you try to directly connect the UPS to the N4F server (via USB, serial, ...)?

Hello, sadly, no.. but I would (sadly I can't) check the config upsd (daemon) changes before the 9.3. release, since it worked OK... as I said before.. it is working..but every 5 min producing this log message... have to tune something... but what kind of parameter? I have no idea how many times it pools the APC... nevertheless.... if someone is using the APC over USB and then posting the satus over the network, what kind of driver is used then by the recipient?

You could try to use the old (rel. 9.2.0.972) rc-files to see if this is related to the changes made for master/slave mode (what IMHO should not be) from the attached zip-file. If the problem persists then I would assume that it is related to nut / driver changes in 9.3 and I would propose to write a bug report to the developers.
nut_972.zip
To use the old rc-files extract the contents of the zip to your server and copy it as root to /etc/rc.d (save the files nut, nut_upslog and nut_upsmon before to be able to revert when you finished the test).

Code: Select all

cp -v nut* /etc/rc.d/
... and then restart nut

Code: Select all

/etc/rc.d/nut restart
... and check the logs.

Crest, thankyou for your time/help, I have upgraded from r1283 to r1310 and the issue with the ups stalling is away. Sadly, in change log, there is nothing written regarding the upsd. weird!

You are welcome ;-)
Yes, 1310 seems to solve some UPS related problems ...
