why owncloud?

#1

Post by rceit » 11 May 2017 02:29

Hello Folks!

I am a bit confused so I'd like some insite on why I would install owncloud on nas4free. If I can map the drive to my pc, use winscp / filezilla / etc when away from my desk, I am not understanding the benefit of installing owncloud (or similar software).

I am not attempting to bait anyone, or cause a flame dialogue. I just am not seeing the benefit.

Thanks for any comments

I not use owncloud, but :
1.Owncloud make file catalog, which allow search files very fast. If you have more 1000000 managed files...
2. Owncloud can help organize collaborate work

Thanks alexey123

I think we are being pushed into SharePoint in the next year, so setting up ownCloud as a vehicle for collaborative documents would be met with much resistance. Saying that, I believe I will set it up on a test platform and experiment.

I had just viewed Nas4Free as accomplishing the same purpose in that staff will have a safe place to keep files and allow for daily backups of all work related information to prevent loss in event of computer failure.

I do appreciate your view though, and I will experiment with it.

Thanks again!

Owncloud(or rather better Nextcloud) is easy to use for non-tech people. Let say, you want to share an photo album to a family - it easier to provide link to website with nice interface, than try to explain how to use i.e. FTP.

Also, it has useful desktop and mobile clients and it provides you sync across your devices.

Overall, imo it saves time, works well and you have the control.
