So are you using a serial cable into the NAS box or USB? and if it's a serial cable, how are you keeping it (palm) charged?

All

There was a typo in the config file the for the Palm - not sure if it's due to the version of FreeBSD, however I needed to capitalize the "U"

From:
device=/dev/cuau0

To:
device=/dev/cuaU0

To anyone who has done this with a NAS4Free, can you input control to the NAS? As in the basic menu that shows up when a monitor is connected and running?

I've been planning to look into getting an LCD to work and making a small key pad for the basic numerical entries, but if this will do both, tnen I'll grab a Palm from one of the local thrift stores and go that route.

Well, just a thought, there are so many tablet computers out there ( Android and Apple based) wouldn't it make more sense to put effort in connecting them via Bluetooth in this manner/ with this function than old Palm Hardware ?

Maybe, but I don't own a tablet, and can't find a use for one in my use of computers. So this would be the only use I'd have for one. The price difference would be huge, at minimum dozens of dollars for the cheapest tablet, compared to a few dollars for a Palm from a thrift store.

If I was to try the tablet route I'd just try to get my phone connected in a very similar way.

This is something I want connected directly to the NAS, so I don't have to worry about whether another device is charged, or if it'll connect reliably, etc.

I did order an FT245R BOB last night to get the conventional LCD display up and running, so that I have a bench mark to work towards (and test against) if I do pursue the Palm direction.
