ZFS Mirror Stripes

#1

Post by trickpaul » 22 May 2016 16:14

Hi

New to this game, tried Freenas first for many hours, just not booting up, tried Nas4Free and up and running in 10mins, perfect.

My question, (after searching the net with no answer) is i have four 1TB Drives i want to stripe two together and mirror to the other two drives which are striped with all with ZFS, can this be done, and how???

you can do exactly oppossite

create a mirror and stripe "n" mirrors (2 in your case)
12.0.0.4 (revision 6766)+OBI on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 12x3TB disk in 3 vdev in RaidZ1 = 32TB Raw size only 22TB usable

create 2 mirror vdev and next create a pool using your previously created vdev ( mirror)

This is a very fast an secure way to create a pool because, you only need 2 new disk to expand your pool ( 2 disk in a mirror to create a new vdev and use this vdev to expand your pool).

This is not the raid 10 (1 + 0) but the raid (0 + 1) you describe.

raulfg3 gives you the solution for ZFS but it is (1 + 0)
12.1.0.4 - RC2 (revision 7019)
FreeBSD 12.1-RC2 #0 r353745M: Sat Oct 19 03:32:24 CEST 2019
X64-embedded sur Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU C2750 @ 2.40GHz Boot UEFI
ASRock C2750D4I 2 X 8GB DDR3 ECC
Pool of 2 vdev Raidz1: 3 x WDC WD40EFRX + 3 x WDC WD30EZRX
