snapshots, how to do a "manual" snapshot from webGUI

#1

Post by raulfg3 » 23 May 2018 19:41

well, my question to develkopers is:

actually it's possible to create a daily snapshot and only options are to define the hour of the snapshot and persistance ( days to delete automatically).

My suggest is to add more granurallity, so you can do snapshot once a week or once a hour, and best option for me , do a "manual" snapshot. (can be to executre a previosly automatic defined snapshot too)

eg: if I have OBI instaled on a ZFS Dataset and want to update Plex for example, can be more secure to do a snapshot prior to update, so i can revert changes in a esay way, or at least recover my config files if something goes really wrong.

Please think if is a good suggestion or not.

I totally approve this suggestion, but in the meantime you can enter as a command:

zfs snapshot RPool/DATA@nameofsnapshot
12.0.0.4 - Reticulus (revision 6991)
FreeBSD 12.1-RC1 #0 r353550M: Tue Oct 15 16:23:25 CEST 2019
X64-embedded sur Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU C2750 @ 2.40GHz Boot UEFI
ASRock C2750D4I 2 X 8GB DDR3 ECC
Pool of 2 vdev Raidz1: 3 x WDC WD40EFRX + 3 x WDC WD30EZRX

you could also use System > Advanced > Cron
something like "zfs snapshot tank/dataset@auto-`date "+%Y%m%d-%H%M%S"`"

put it in a little script to delete/prune the quantity of snapshots etc.

just an idea
