SMART Monitoring - is it on or not?

#1

Post by mooblie »

In a recent thread, crowi reminded us that after an upgrade: "...you will need to re-activate S.M.A.R.T. monitoring for every device...", as in the Upgrade ReadMe file.

Good advice of course, but this is actually something I had forgotten to do in my last upgrades.

However, the REASON I had forgotten, was that in Diagnostics|Information page, every disk reported "SMART: Available, Enabled."

Yet, when I use Disks|Management and view a disk's parameters, it shows SMART was NOT activated. This happened on both my NAS4Frees (10.2.0.2 and 10.3.0.3) and all the disks in them. (I have since turned on SMART monitoring.)

Is this just a WebGUIsync-type bug in the Diagnostics|Information page? or a more serious problem?

don't forget, every time you do 'clear config and import disks" the Smart monitoring is of. from all those disks.

Set it again on per disk base.

And if you use ZFS you lose the visability of the Vdevs whan setting S.M.A.R.T. montoring. Olny the visble part. it keeps on working.
