Harddisk won't go in Standby - can't figure out why

Hi every one

I'm using Freenas and Nas4Free for years now and I need your help again.
I've upgraded my NAS (ASRock Rack C226 WS) from 5x4TB to 9x4TB and using the SATA Controller in the Chipset and the additional one on the Board. I also updated Nas4free to the Version 11.1.0.4.5127

Also a full Factory Reset and setting up everything by hand didn't work.

I'cant figure out why the Harddisk won't spin down and what software (or hardware combination) is preventing ist.

Hello Viper,

I have the same problem. Long ago (i.e. many versions back) my disks did go standby after the given period of time.
Now they'll never spin down.

Also fresh install did not help.

Hi Maarten

This problem doesn't seem to interest many user here.
They are more concerned about the Name and how the product can be monetized (again).

I've switch to other solutions for important use.

Hi Viper,

Thanks for your response. I like XigmaNAS but with 9 hard disks, care for the environment and energy bill it is for me a serious problem. Have donated twice in the past and willing to do so again if things like this will be solved.

I can understand the name change however and I am thankful XIgmaNAS is free and updated regularly!

There are many services that can stop a HDD from going into sleep mode.
As a test you could try to manually put a HDD into sleep mode (i.e. ataidle). If it wakes up you'd know that there is a service actively accessing the disk.
1) XigmaNAS 12.0.0.4 amd64-embedded on a Dell T20 running in a VM on ESXi 6.7U2, 22GB out of 32GB ECC RAM, LSI 9300-8i IT mode in passthrough mode. Pool 1: 2x HGST 10TB, mirrored, SLOG: Samsung 850 Pro, L2ARC: Samsung 850 Pro, Pool 2: 1x Samsung 860 EVO 1TB , services: Samba AD, CIFS/SMB, ftp, ctld, rsync, syncthing, zfs snapshots.
