RR4320 + CK12803

#1

Post by audiophil » 26 Jun 2012 05:45

The combo of the Rocketraid 4320 (Intel IOP348) + Chenbro CK12803 SAS expander works out of the box. For ZFS volumes I am configuring the drives in jbod mode w/ the cache set to 'none'.

Thanks for the tip! I've been looking for a SAS expander.

Does this combo pass smart data to NAS4Free? The reason I ask is because I have a Dell SAS5 card and it doesn't.

You are restricted to the webgui on the rr card for drive status. No smart on this, sadly. The zfs pools do deal with drives being detached (or presumably failing) gracefully though; I get a drive failure buzzer and the pool keeps on running.

The Intel RES2SV240 is also working out of the box, including SMART.

good lord, 24 drives?

I don't have space in my case for more than a dozen.

Do you know if any of the intel raid cards (I'm looking for 8 ports) give SMART out of the box?

if you dont need > 2TB
Intel SASUC8I (LSi1068)
over 3TB
Intel RS2WC080

But best is, you buy IBM M1015 SAS(around 70 Bucks), and Flash it with LSI Firmware.
(Same LSI 2008 as the intel)
