Hello forum,

I am planing to build a new NAS system because my old system needs about 90W.
So I searched for a good mainboard and found the Fujitsu D3417-B.
Could anyone tell me if this mainboard will be supported by NAS4Free? It is for Skylake systems and as an Intel I219-network chip.
I read somewhere this could be a problem with FreeBSD based systems ...

Thank you for your answer,
boh73

Well, TBH, 90W consumption for your old system is not that bad
If your old system serves you well, you should account for the cost of your new system.
E.g. in my area 1 watt equals to about 1 euro per year.
Paying e.g. 300 euros for a system that will save me 50 watts on a 24/7 server, will pay my money back in 6 years.
That's what I calculated last time I wanted to upgrade... realized that the upgrade will not pay my money back... ignored that realization and upgraded anyway... :P :P

Well ... for me it is about 2,50 € / 1W over a year ... and I hope the new system will saves me 60W.
So in my calculation I will get my money back in 2 years.
And .. the old hardware could fail soon. It is the second PC for the NAS in 1 year now.

Thanks for your answers so far ... hardware is ordered now.
:)

I think your power saving calculations are very optimistic.
30 watt is a very low estimate.
Of course i don't know the number of the disks but in any case 45-50 watt would be a more realistic estimate.
But then, the fact that you get a new toy to play with, saves you about 40 watts by itself :P :P
