dell power edge heatsink reveiw?

#1

Post by mrjacobrussell » 05 Jan 2016 23:27

Does anyone have experience with the cr227 heatsinks ?
I included a link.

I found these on ebay. i'm looking at buying another sgi rack server but they always come with fans that run wide open and they are very loud!. I was hoping I could install these heatsinks and drop the noise down so I can keep them inside my house. I would also be nice to lower the power consumption of the systems.

The heatsink is only part of the picture. You have to flow enough air through the case to remove the heat. That takes air flow, and speed. You can replace the fans... I have found some 1U fans that are a bit quieter then stock, but still not silent. Another option is large fans in a funnel down to 1U, or to extend the case to accommodate large fans over the top.

But, generally, in a home, an enthusiast gamer case with very large fans for air flow is the quietest option.

I'm using 2u sgi rackable servers. The problem is where the driver install over the front cpu and the heat sink space is only 1u there. If has 3 large fans on the back. The server I have came with the large case fans that can fill speed. I replaced them with pwm fans. The CPUs also had fan that were very loud. I have replaced one already.

The noise is down but the deal is I know the computers will hardly ever see full CPU usage or heat output.
