TS140 in a L4412

Post by karlandtanya »

Thanks to all the hard work from the developers and plenty of generous and patient assistance from the community, I have a place to keep videos at home and my boss has a place to keep all his projects at work.
I've built 4 of these (boss has Dell hardware) and they work great. Here's mine--just upgraded to hotswappable and huge capacity

Starting with a Lenovo TS140 a couple years back for $200.00; it was an excellent house for drives, but got too small.
By now that original $200.00 accounts for an ECC mobo with 5 SATA onboard, 4G of ECC RAM and an i3 (also ECC compliant). Still a good haul for $200.00

The Rosewill L4412 was also $200.00, and the upgraded power supply was about $60.00 IIRC.
Plus another $40.00 for a couple extra SATA cards.
A big expense was extra RAM; don't know if I really needed, but I added 16G of ECC when I added the disks
So, without hard drives it's about $650 for the whole mess. HDDs were around $99 apiece; there's 11 of them. The twelfth (boot) drive is just a leftover cost nothing.
Another $1100 for HDDs (ouch!).
And this is what comes out at the end:

Jon Kensy has instructions how he did his; also a nice pinout for the TS140 front panel header.
This was very helpful to and must be credited!
