Read/write/delete permission on copied files

#1

Post by Bejne » 13 Jul 2018 07:08

I have a mounted USB drive with photos that I copy to a raid 5 disc. On the USB drive the all the files have -rwxrwxrwx permission, when I copy these to the raid 5 disc the permission changes to -rw-rw-r--.

Can someone point me to te setting where I change these setting to allow the permissions to stay the way the are on he original file, or alternatively so that they are copied as -rwxrwxrwx.

Thanks!

please say how do you copy , by SMB, by ftp, by RSync? to help you.

More info are needed , eg: your USB Drive is NTFS?.

OK, problem detected, NTFS is not the recomended file system to manage permission, use UFS or ZFS instead to preserve attributes.

more info in wiki, FAQ0018: https://www.xigmanas.com/wiki/doku.php? ... 8&s[]=ntfs

PD: Better way to do the copy is to use SMB Copy ( share both path USB/And destination and copy from USB) this is more secure and you do not have problems with attributes & Permission.

I use FreeFileSync for something similar to yours.
