Unknown or unformatted raid disk on new setup

#1

Post by axelsig404 » 27 Nov 2018 22:30

Hello everyone. I´m having quite a problem. My NAS hardware crashed due to age I guess so I had to setup on another computer I had lying around. I´m running a 32 bit system 10.1.0.2 and I am having problems mounting my software raid disks. I was running Raid with two disks on my older setup, I´ts been a few years from when I set that up so I cannot really remember how I did it or with what setup. Now I have started up with the new hardware and I can remount my normal drives without a problem but the two former raid disks come up as Unknown or unformatted in the disks/management window and no matter how i try to import them they always come up the same.

I have been looking at the forum and could not find anyone talking about this exact problem so I decided on starting a thread since all my family pictures from the last few years are on these disks ( although I do also have a copy of most of them in another place).

So... what to do? I am capable of going in via SSH and do something there but I still wouldn´t describe myself as anything else than a layman in computer things.

Any advice is good advice so please bring them on.

So you actually tried the option to "clear config and import software raid disks" ?

Yes I certainly have. I´ve tried on multiple occasions to clear, import... nothing seems to work. I´m not really bothered as long as I will be able to get the data from the disks. If I can somehow get the content from the disks then i´m ok with reformatting them and setting the raid up again. I´m 100% sure that the disks themselves are running fine, it´s just a matter of mounting them or getting the data from them.

support for GRaid is lost on latest builds.

Please install old Nas4Free, import your disk (clear config & Import Disk), restore your Raid and consider to migrate to a ZFS Pool.
XigmaNAS 11.2.0.4 - Omnius (revision 6195)+OBI on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 12x3TB disk in 3 vdev in RaidZ1 = 32TB Raw size only 22TB usable

I was under the impression that software raid works normally under latest builds and can also be imported.
What can't be done is to create a new software raid array...
If this is not the case, then my bad...sorry...

Well like I said in the first post then I´m running an old system but the drives wont mount, no matter what. Ive been trying many things with putty via SSH to mount, create new arrays... nothing works. I can not get the drives mounted.
