RAID5 Rebuilding - what does (p:xyz) mean?

#1

Post by cmanblues »

Hi everybody!

I have a question about my Software-RAID5. My NAS crashed (it just rebooted - but thats another case) and when I bootet up again, the RAID5 went into status "rebuilding", which is OK.
My RAID5 was rebuilding one or two times before and it took somewhere between 1 and 2 days to be finished, but I was able to see the percentage number in the "Information"-tab going up every few minutes.

This time it's different. The percentage is at 0% for 6 hours now, but in the same line at every harddrive, there is "(p:139)" for example. This number is going up very slowly, but it ist still showing 0%.

Code: Select all

Geom name: raid5118TB
State: REBUILDING HOT

Type: AUTOMATIC

Stripesize: 131072

The performance of the NAS seems OK. I can mount the SMB-share in Windows an Mac OS, Reading is 102 MB/sec. Writing is 100 MB/sec.

But what makes me curious is, that the percentage does not go up. And what does this "(p:344)" mean?

Hope someone can help!

Thx,
Chris

Are you using the raid? Because from my experience using the raid during rebuild terribly slowed down the rebuild process. So I would suggest unmounting the raid (so no app/network host cannot use it) and checking after while if the % goes up.

Not at the moment, no. At least not actively :D Maybe some service is accessing it, but usually the drives go to sleep after an hour, so there should not be any access to the share.
But it is a good tip. I will try to unmount it. Maybe the speed increases.

Do you know what this "(p:xyz)" value means which is increasing?

thx,
Chris
