Importing existing raid 5 array to NAS4Free

#1

Post by ExTruckie » 02 Aug 2018 02:51

I am migrating from OMV back to the newest ver. of NAS4Free.
I currently have an active raid 5 array on my server. That has all my current data.
The last time I used the LiveCD I was having difficulty finding the array on the GUI.
I am going to try again tomorrow evening when I have more time to work with it.
In the meantime, I am looking for suggestions on how to migrate my array into the software.
Thanks in advance
Mark Minnich

If your raid was build with OMV I think is not possible, from OMV documentation:
"openmediavault uses linux software RAID driver (MD) and the mdadm utility to create arrays [1]. Arrays created in any other linux distro should be recognized inmmediatly by the server. In most cases you can skip to the filesystem array and proceed to mount to integrate the filesystem into the database. "
Is the linux software RAID driver (MD) supported in XigmaNAS/FreeBSD ?
Unfortunately my answer is no.
The last time I have imported a Linux NAS in FreeBSD I have mounted the NAS drive with Samba from FreeBSD and copied all files.
XigmaNAS 11.2.0.4 on Dell R710 144GB RAM - RootOnZFS zroot on 2x 64GB 15k HDDs in mirror, zdata on 3x 1TB SSD in RAIDZ1.
2x XigmaNAS 11.2.0.4 - RootOnZFS on HPE Proliant Microserver gen10 X3216 - 3x 4TB WD RED. In mirror with zrep.
