How to tune the system to use all 8GB RAM

#1

Post by shakky4711 » 23 Feb 2013 11:37

Hello,

my NAS4Free 9.1.0.1 Sandstorm 573 embedded 64bit is running with all default options on a ASUS E35M1-I Board with 8GB RAM. Currently only a zfs-mirror is running, speed is no matter because most clients are equipped mit 100mbit NICs only.

I mentioned that the RAM usage is really low (never more than 2GB), and often see the HD led operate. I know there are some tuning switches to force the system to use all RAM.

I would be pleased when some users could post their ZFS tuning switches.

Many thanks
Shakky

Hello Raulf,

stupid question, is this the right location?
system - advanced - syctl.conf

what is the correct syntax for the value I must enter at "mib" and the value really "8gb"?

i do not want to risk a breaking system because of a wrong syntax, learned the lesson hard that FreeBSD does not tolerate any little mistake...

As I say I use ZFSkernTune and forget what variables are involved, please install it , is really easy: viewtopic.php?f=71&t=1278&p=10011

If still do you want to modify involves variables by hand , this post can help you:

viewtopic.php?f=71&t=1278&p=10011
12.0.0.4 (revision 6766)+OBI on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 12x3TB disk in 3 vdev in RaidZ1 = 32TB Raw size only 22TB usable
