Stop "Boot" until Disks are encrypted?

#1

Post by mahlzeit » 26 Jan 2017 12:10

Hi,

since a few years i have a Raid Z1 with crypted 4 Disks.
After Boot i mount them with ssh and the Script from bossman
viewtopic.php?p=14576#p14576

But with all the Extensions OBI and others its not good when the ZFS Pool is not ready at boot.

Is there a way to stop the Postinits and other stuff until i encrypt and mount them?

is really difficult.

as a workarround, you can use a small HD ( or a big and good USB), and install embedd on it, and use partition 4 to store OBI and your mount script, so always are ready at boot time.

In my case I use and old 40GB SATA 2,5" Disk from an old lattop to this pourpouse, works fine util you need to upgrade N4F because boot size partition changes, for normal updates, no problem.
12.0.0.4 (revision 6766)+OBI on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 12x3TB disk in 3 vdev in RaidZ1 = 32TB Raw size only 22TB usable

Thanks for the quick answer.

I thought that way before, but than i thought even when the scripts are starting, the Apps like Plex or others are missing their working Directorys...
Do you have not such problems?

no because my Data disk forOBI & Extensions (plex, thebring, dnsmasq) are in partition 4 of my boot disk.
