Thanks for your help.
You obviously removed the already downloaded extension files somehow so you could move the *.php files one direction up and start the installation again.

I have a proposal. Could you add option "umask" into BitTorrent Sync config (into extension form)? I would like to start process with umask=002. It will create new folders with 775 rights and files with 664 rights. This needs for read/write access from smb and afp clients.
What do you think about it?

I think I found the problem. When I run the download command

Code: Select all

 fetch -T30 -aw10 -vo master.zip 'http://sourceforge.net/projects/nas4freeextensionbts/files/BitTorrent%20Sync/bts-v0641.zip/download'
it get as output

Code: Select all

fetch: http://sourceforge.net/projects/nas4freeextensionbts/files/BitTorrent%20Sync/bts-v0641.zip/download: Not Found
This is the line in the bts-install.php install that should download the executable but it fails.

Thank you for the proposal. Currently I'm not sure how to realize this but in the meantime you could run BTS with another user (e.g. your CIFS/SMB user) to have full read/write access to folders and files.

Just stopped syncing for no reason.

I had an office folder (windows computer) synced to my nas4free and noticed they have not synced in over a week.

I ended up having to removed the shared folders on each computer and start over. Even after that the approval would not go through until I killed the bitsync app on the windows machine and restarted it. Then it finally got the approval notification.

I wish this had some kind of feature that would test the connection before had, the syncing is just automatic in the background.

I want to be able to trust this application to backup. Set it and forget it.

Did you check the BTS forum? Maybe the problem should be reported or you can suggest such test automatism for BTS ...

This "Out of Sync" "no peers online" problem is out of control.

http://forum.bittorrent.com/topic/31918 ... ne/page-10

I've tried:

- Removing the extension and reinstalling it.
- Removing the .sync folders from each peer.
- Checked "Overwrite any changed files"
- Restarted all machines
- Paused all clients, closed them, and restarted them
- Disconnect all folders and reconnected them

Nothing even kind of works.

Do you just recommend that I use SyncThing instead? BitTorrent Sync appears to be pretty unmatured. At least this newest string of versions.

To be honest I cannot recommend to use either SyncThing or BitTorrent Sync because there are so many different setups and environments which can cause problems but you could try an older version of BitTorrent Sync e.g. version 1.4.106 (in the maintenance section of the extension -> use http://syncapp.bittorrent.com/1.4.106/b ... 106.tar.gz for x86 or http://syncapp.bittorrent.com/1.4.106/b ... 106.tar.gz for x64 - download and install) to see if your problems disappear. There are direct download links like this -> http://syncapp.bittorrent.com/1.4.106/ (and also 105, 103, 99, 93, ...) provided by the BTSync guys so you could also try even older versions.

I can only recommend to stay on a version which works and not to upgrade any time a new version is released ... ;)

But of course you could try Syncthing too, maybe it works better in your environment.

Hello everyone
in first time i don't understand the importance of "change the path /mnt/DATA/extensions to your needs - a persistant place where all extensions are/should be" indeed i install in /mnt/estensioni.
After restart i lose extension gui in web interface and so i understand what is a non persistant place !

Now i would reinstall extension but, after download in a persistant place, when i do "$ /mnt/pooluno/datasetuno/estensioni/bts_install.php" i get error

"Warning: require_once(/mnt/estensioni/btsync/bts-start.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /mnt/pooluno/datasetuno/estensioni/bts-install.php on line 160

Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required '/mnt/estensioni/btsync/bts-start.php' (include_path='.:/etc/inc:/usr/local/www') in /mnt/pooluno/datasetuno/estensioni/bts-install.php on line 160
"

any way to remove the old wrong installation or one to force install in the right place?
Thanks
Stefano

EDIT: Solved
i recreate /mnt/estensioni; relaunch install in that folder; and now i can remove extension.
after that i can install extension in right folder
Bye

Are you planning to support BitTorrent Sync 2.0 beta? The link is here: https://download-cdn.getsyncapp.com/sta ... x64.tar.gz

I'd like to see if this might fix the notorious "out of sync" issues that have been plaguing this software.

Did you try older versions of the 1.4.xx series if one of these is working for you?

There are many restrictions in BTS 2.0 if your don't want to pay for the pro version (number and size of directories, ...) :( so until now I tried it not yet, do you know if these restrictions are also in the beta versions?

In my little case, i prefer 1.4 version because 2.0 ver is not compatible with atom cpu (asus zenfone)
so for now, i disable smartphone update for bitsync
and also i not update extension (there isn't autoupdate, right?)

So do I, 1.4 works perfectly for me.
Auto update can be enabled/disabled inside the extension ...

in bittorrent sync update page (under maintenance) i haven't a "disable update" but only save/recover/download link
So if i don't press any button, will i continue to have the version 1.4 independently of new extension versions ?

Yes, right. The autoupdate is a function of Syncthing, sorry mixed them ... ;)

Dear All,

Is the version 2 of bittorrentsync available for Nas4free ?

I have the version 1.4, but unfortunately, all my apple device are now with the version 2.0 of apps for bittorent sync. And it doesn't work with the version 1.4 on nas4free.

I am interesting by syncing too, but today no apps for ipad/iphone.

Other extension or add-on in order to save movies and pictures of apple devices is also a possibility. Any advice is welcome

AFAIK - no. And probably never will be due to change payment model for btsync.

Of course, crest as extention author could change his mind in the future and invest his own time for free support of $$ application, but we all here are strongly prefer free software.

As MikeMac already mentioned due to the change in the payment model for BitTorrent Sync I have currently no plan to upgrade to 2.xx, for me 1.4.110 still works pretty good but I'm using also Syncthing which is open source and getting more mature.

BUT, if you are brave enough ;) you could upgrade to BitTorrent Sync 2.xx easily via my BTS extension, just follow the steps below OR (recommended) change the download URL as described below and perfom a Fetch and Install:
  1. At the BitTorrent Sync website you can find the latest builds, e.g. => Sync 2.0.105
  2. Copy the appropriate download link for your system: Gzip archive for FreeBSD: i386 or x64, e.g. https://download-cdn.getsyncapp.com/2.0 ... x64.tar.gz
  3. Go to the Extensions|BitTorrent Sync 0.6.4.2|Maintenance tab in the N4F WebGUI, paste the download link into the BitTorrent Sync Update | Download URL text field and press Get File button (NOT the Fetch button) to download the file.
  4. After successful download you can install the 2.xx version with the Install button.
I tried the installation procedure on a N4F VirtualBox installation and Sync was running but I performed no further tests because I'm with my life systems still on 1.4 as above mentioned ... ;)
So if you try this please share your experiences here for others who wish to upgrade to 2.xx too ...

New download URL for v2.xx:
For update check with Fetch copy => https://download-cdn.getsyncapp.com/sta ... x64.tar.gz into the Update | Download URL text field and press Save URL than the 2.xx branch will be checked for further updates ...

The update is fine but the connection to the web page shows now only a grey rectangle. I will try with another Internet navigator .

Hmmm, strange, I tried it twice, first time as an update from 1.4.xx and a second time as a total fresh install and both of them worked ... - maybe you didn't finish/interrupted the first time run of BitTorrent Sync after the upgrade to 2.x, THAN you have the grey rectangle. BTS obviously writes something to the hdd so maybe it's necessary to remove the extension via the WebGUI extension maintenance tab, remove the btsync directory with the filemanager and do a fresh installation.

At my machine it looks like this:
