When syslog.conf

Code: Select all

#security.* %/var/log/system.log
#auth.info;authpriv.info %/var/log/system.log
*.emerg *
then

Code: Select all

# syslogd -d -f /var/etc/syslog.conf
listening on inet and/or inet6 socket
sending on inet and/or inet6 socket
off & running....

When I removed the "%" symbol in the path in the configuration file, it worked.
Why there "%" symbol?

Today USB Flash Drive is dead. When I picked up a new flash drive and installed a fresh build it, the error is gone.

This time move the log to data disk,

Probably the easiest way is to use WebGUI Tab> System|Advanced|rc.conf. Add a new Variable, Value (path to a directory that will not be overwritten on boot where you will store the files) and Description as follows:

Code: Select all

Variable: clog_logdir
Value: /mnt/data/logs
Description: Log files location.

This is an old thread, but problem is still there at version 10.3.0.3 - Pilingitam (revision 2987). Sig 11 exit is caused by % sign in /etc/syslog.conf so a patch /etc/rc.d/syslogd solves problem. Final solution is documented at https://sourceforge.net/p/nas4free/bugs/310/

This bug caused also that proftpd does not start. After applying that patch proftpd starts now.

I still wonder what i must do to reproduce this error as i never got Sig 11 exit is caused by % sign on my embedded systems at all.
remove of the % sign caused that no longer some log files can be displayed on webgui
