Disk Space on device A_OS is LOW

#1

Post by NeilP » 06 Jun 2017 14:23

Embedded system 11.0.0.4 - Sayyadina (revision 4303)
NO ZFS

Every few days I get this message. 'Disk space' is low ..on a RAM drive?

SMB, AFP, BT, and SSH are only services running

Is there a way to tweak the boot config to force creation of a bigger 'drive'

After cold reboot is drops to 74% .88MB of 120 MB used

You use N4F embedded and there the root file system "/" has very limited space. Since you use BitTorrent I suppose you didn't set it up to use space on your mounts e.g. on CD65 or Main for the folders in BitTorrent. Change the path under Services > BitTorrent. If this is not the case you should check if you use your root file system for other occasions...

Yes, that is what I did wonder too after I continued a bit of reading around after posting.

I suppose i could specify an Incomplete Directory too'...but I have never done so in the past. I just checked my 'pedro BT music ' account creation date, August 2006..10-11 years..so I have been using Freenas / NAS4Free since then , and this has never occurred before. Never before having specified an 'Incomplete Directory'. Wonder if something has changed in the way either N4F or BT is using space in the RAM drive.???

I see there is no ' temporary ' directory in the BT Gui page. but I am sure I did see mention to it..m,maybe they were referring to the 'Incomplete Directory'

I used to have a "watch Directory' but have not had one recently.

I have created an incomplete dir in CD65 so we will see what happens

The only other change recently has been to use "ntlm auth = yes" in CIFS additional Parameters ..

Oh I blatantly lied to you ..and I gave you proof of my lies in my very first post.....the screen grab of the Extended GUI!

As you can see I have the OBI and the Extended GUI installed, and I have Plex Media server running....ummmmm...

.......checking./......

No I checked..all the specifiable directories on all the Extensions Menu item entries...all I pointed towards my 'persistent' system storage HDD on the CD drive bay CD65.

Even wth BT disabled ..after a reboot..still showing 74% used.
I leave it running for the day with BT disabled and just Plex running. See what happens when i get home tonight.

I did read up about the rc.conf and the cheat sheet..is there a way to increase the size of RAM drives? Unfortunately the link to the cheat sheet is broken

Ah..it is under System Advanced...but it only only allows the change of A_var...not able to change A_OS, which is the one causing the issues..managed to up vat to 1024..but can't change A_0S

Was hoping the maybe there was an option to change them all...or changing one, scaled up all the others proportionally

OK, so nothing to do with BT Transmission or its settings.

I disabled. BT Service the other day, rebooted and left it alone. This morning, the same A_OS RAM drive error messsge.

So, either Plex, the OBI, Extended GUI or the OS itself.

Have disabled Plex too just now, and rebooted. If, in a day or two,I still get an out of space error, it points to Ext GUI or OS itself.

mmmmm...... or.... rsync log.
I forgot, I do have a nightly local rsync set to sync 'Main' to 'Backup'

I see in the rc.conf cheat sheet an option to move the log to permanent storage.

Yes, that is /var not /A_OS but ..clutching at straws here since no one can shed any light on what may be filling up /A_OS

Could it be the log be filling up A_OS ?
I have manually run the local rsync now. to see what happens

My thinking it has to be one of these culprits,

Plex
ExtGUI
RSYNC Local
OS itself ? (recent changes?)

No, var is /A_VAR, not /A_OS. Different ramdisk. And neither OBI nor Extended GUI are causing any such problem.

So if nothing else is running, why is a clean instal of embedded system running out of A_OS space all the time ?

If you say it cannot be OBI or Ext GUI, then
Rsync or the OS itself

Perhaps you should stop installing things like Plex on it.

Sorted...
Faulty RSYNC destination...by mistake I had set the RSYNC local target to /mnt/ not /mnt/Backup... my f..k up

Sorted.

Plex etc all work just fine..all come as part of the OBI add-on scripts.
