Upgraded from 6743 without issue. Thanks to all the devs.

Will v.11 become obsoleted by v.12 soon?

v.11.x become obsoleted by v.12.x one day, we have not set a time/date yet,
for now we support both versions, v11 is pretty stable, v12.0 needs some time and later on a 12.1 release.
We will see how it goes, users do not have to rush to switch.

Attempting to use File Manager in the last two 11. releases (6743 & 6766) I have encountered the following error:

Code: Select all

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ',', expecting ']' in /usr/local/www/quixplorer/_config/.htusers.php on line 7
The first time I saw this, in 6743, I tracked it down to a missing comma at the end of line 6 - the entry for root and fixed it then. I had never edited this file before.

Unfortunately, I don't know when the error might have been introduced because I don't use File Manager very often but it has returned in 6766.

6 ['root','redacted stuff here.Wy1','/','http://localhost',1,'',32847,1]comma missing here
7 ['','','/','http://localhost',1,'',32847,1],
8 ['root','','/','http://localhost',1,'',32847,1]
9 ];
10 ?>

Please let me know if there is any more information needed.

Content of /usr/local/www/quixplorer/_config/.htusers.php after running /etc/rc.d/fmperm:

Code: Select all

<?php
$GLOBALS["users"] = [
  ['David','','/mnt/POOL1','http://localhost',0,'^.ht',17,1],
  ['Phil','','/mnt/POOL1','http://localhost',0,'^.ht',17,1],
  ['admin','','/','http://localhost',1,'',32847,1],
  ['root','','/','http://localhost',1,'',32847,1]
  ['','','/','http://localhost',1,'',32847,1],
  ['root','','/','http://localhost',1,'',32847,1]
];
?>
After adding new user 'test':

Code: Select all

<?php
$GLOBALS["users"] = [
  ['David','','/mnt/POOL1','http://localhost',0,'^.ht',17,1],
  ['Phil','','/mnt/POOL1','http://localhost',0,'^.ht',17,1],
  ['test','','/mnt','http://localhost',0,'^.ht',17,1],
  ['admin','','/','http://localhost',1,'',32847,1],
  ['root','','/','http://localhost',1,'',32847,1]
  ['','','/','http://localhost',1,'',32847,1],
  ['root','','/','http://localhost',1,'',32847,1]
];
?>
Thanks for looking at this.

EDIT - I'm fairly sure that I had the missing comma in place on line 6 before I ran /etc/rc.d/fmperm.

The issue is caused by the remote syslog server configuration when checkbox "Send system event messages." is enabled.
If you are forwarding syslog messages to a remote syslog server, could you please disable the above checkbox, select save and rerun the test?
If you are not forwarding syslog messages, the above checkbox is hidden. Please enable the service (to unhide the checkbox), uncheck the checkbox, uncheck enable service, save the setting and rerun the test.

Sorry, I forgot to repeat the add a new user step.

Here's the sanitized .htusers.php before unchecking "Send system event messages.":

Code: Select all

<?php
$GLOBALS["users"] = [
  ['David','','/mnt/POOL1','http://localhost',0,'^.ht',17,1],
  ['Phil','','/mnt/POOL1','http://localhost',0,'^.ht',17,1],
  ['test','','/mnt','http://localhost',0,'^.ht',17,1],
  ['admin','','/','http://localhost',1,'',32847,1],
  ['root','','/','http://localhost',1,'',32847,1]
  ['','','/','http://localhost',1,'',32847,1],
  ['root','','/','http://localhost',1,'',32847,1]
];
?>
. . . and after :

Code: Select all

<?php
$GLOBALS["users"] = [
  ['David','','/mnt/POOL1','http://localhost',0,'^.ht',17,1],
  ['Phil','','/mnt/POOL1','http://localhost',0,'^.ht',17,1],

Many thanks for testing, a bug fix has been developed and has been committed:
6773 - loop is not needed and
6774 - rename field 'system' to 'sendsystemeventmessages' to avoid xpath issues

I had the same problem w/ 6766 - the instructions above yielded no success. I then went into the .htusers.php and added the necessary comma, and all is now OK w/ File manager.

I have an embedded install - I assume that if if the system is rebooted, I will again have to go to that file and add the comma?

Please do a search for <system> in config.xml and report back the number of occurences. If the result is not 1, please report the xml hierarchy of the found tags, i.e. <xigmanas><system>.

UPDATE: After all I did above, I saved the system config onto my PC. I then rebooted XNAS, and it wouldn't start, saying no config file could be found. I had to do a fresh embedded install of 6766, and when I restored it to my saved config (with change in syslog setting), File manager worked fine. I don't know if the comma I added in .htusers.php messed up something else, so perhaps the best route is to simply change the syslog setting, save the new config file (just in case), and reboot.

On my server, full installation RootOnZFS, I have installed openntpd as Network Time Protocol (NTP) daemon.
At boot the server looses the _ntp user and the openntp service cannot start.
Starting the service at command prompt I receive the error:

Code: Select all

# /usr/local/etc/rc.d/openntpd start
Performing sanity check on openntpd configuration:
configuration OK
Starting openntpd.
ntpd: unknown user _ntp
/usr/local/etc/rc.d/openntpd: WARNING: failed to start openntpd

Hi, in Full Platforms for additional applications that requires for a user/group, you need to add them from the WebGUI or run a small script to add the users at boot time in order for the app to run properly.

This is a known issue inherited by design and unfortunately additional users/groups added by the pkg tool and/or command line are lost on reboot.

Thank you for the fast reply, as usual !
I have written this simple script :

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
GID="233"
UID="233"
USER_NAME="_ntp"
GROUP_NAME="_ntp"
pw groupadd "$GROUP_NAME" -g "$GID"
pw useradd "$USER_NAME" -u "$UID" -c "NTP Daemon" -g "$GROUP_NAME" -s /usr/sbin/nologin -d /var/empty
but running it in Preinit doesn't work.
No problem, this is a production server and I can reboot it only after midday, I have rewritten the script for logging to a file :

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
exec >> /var/log/"$(basename "$0" .sh)".log 2>&1
set -x
GID="233"
UID="233"
USER_NAME="_ntp"
GROUP_NAME="_ntp"
pw groupadd "$GROUP_NAME" -g "$GID"
pw useradd "$USER_NAME" -u "$UID" -c "NTP Daemon" -g "$GROUP_NAME" -s /usr/sbin/nologin -d /var/empty
set +x
and tomorrow I will test it

Hi Maurizio, you can try your code as Postinit, alternatively you can add the below code to the openntpd rc under the startup function "openntpd_checkconfig()" at line #44, the code should looks like this:

Code: Select all

openntpd_checkconfig()
{
	if ! pw groupshow _ntp >/dev/null 2>&1; then
		pw groupadd _ntp -g 233
	fi
	if ! pw usershow _ntp >/dev/null 2>&1; then
		pw useradd _ntp -u 233 -g 233 -c "NTP Daemon" -d /var/empty -s /usr/sbin/nologin
	fi

	echo "Performing sanity check on ${name} configuration:"
	eval ${command} ${command_args} ${openntpd_flags} -n
}
The above will always check for the user/group and generate them as needed at the rc level, but beware that this file may be overwritten upon openntpd pkg upgrades.

Hi JoseMR,
I have solved running this script as Postinit

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
pw groupadd _ntp -g 233
pw useradd _ntp -u 233 -c "NTP Daemon" -g _ntp -s /usr/sbin/nologin -d /var/empty
/usr/local/etc/rc.d/openntpd onestart
Thank you again for your support.

Can you confirm that this Samba-and-TFS bug https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13175 is fixed?
Is it fixed in 12.1?

(this question is a followup to viewtopic.php?f=21&t=14219)

Thanks!

Hello I have got a problem to get minidlna running.
I detected it recently, maybe it is not a problem with the actual release because I am using dlna relatively seldom.
The mindlna config has not been changed since a year or more and it worked in the past.
Anyhow minidlna now does not run after boot although it is enabled. When I reenable it, it stops after a short time. The log shows a lot of permission errors concerning the configured data dirs.
As far as I know minidlna runs with user dlna. Ok, this user has had no special access rights concerning the data dirs, only read access. (as for others). All data are owned by root and group "Benutzer" with mode 754.
With the additional minidlna parameter uuid=0 root is running minidlna as I understand. Indeed all "access denied" errors are gone, minidlna does not stop but …. any attempt to play any audio or video from my PC via dlna causes an error.
Changing to fuppes - it works.
Any ideas what could be wrong.

Hello, I try "Full" RootOnZFS from "11.6625"to "11.6766"
Follow the readme,I run "sed -i '' -E 's/SIZE=\"320M\"/SIZE=\"384M\"/g' /etc/rc.firmware" on the shell, then:"The firmware is now being installed. The server will reboot automatically."I reboot from putty,
so i try from "11.6625"to "XigmaNAS-x64-full-11.2.0.4.6743"
Follow the readme,
I run "fetch --no-verify-peer -o /etc/rc.firmware "https://sourceforge.net/p/xigmanas/code ... ,then:"The firmware is now being installed. The server will reboot automatically."
what can i do? Tanks

Hi Bruce, the red highlighted command in the above quote is an obsolete fix no longer necessary in recent RootOnZFS platform, it was just a workaround to allow the upgrade process to handle the bigger firmware file, but RAM is the only limit now.

Between you can just roll back to a previous know working Boot Environment from the boot loader menu screen, then after boot success, just check THIS notes about RootOnZFS platform fixes if applicable, then perform a normal firmware upgrade process as usual.

Remember, you need either remote access by IPMI/BMC or local console access in order to roll back from the boot loader menu.
