NAS4Free 11.0.0.4.4383 released (FreeBSD 11.0-RELEASE-P10)

#1

Post by zoon01 »

The NAS4Free Team is pleased to announce the release of version 11.0.0.4.4383 - Sayyadina
Also it replaces version 4375 because we think the bug fixes are important enough.

Please upgrade if you still are on older 11 releases than rev: 4303, it fixes CVE-2017-7494.
All versions of Samba from 3.5.0 onwards are vulnerable to a remote code execution vulnerability,
allowing a malicious client to upload a shared library to a writable share, and then cause the server to load
and execute it.

Download build 11.0.0.4.4383
Read the readme_11.0

Major Change!

cifs/smb note:
==============
From Samba 4.5.0 and up the default value for the "ntlm auth" option is changed from "yes" to "no".
This may have impact on very old clients which doesn't support NTLMv2 yet.
Only if you really need NTLMv1 Authentication you can set in Additional Parameters: "ntlm auth = yes".

BUILD 11.0.0.4.4383

Note:

Upgraded from latest 10.0 release. Went fine. Small scare when initial detection of ZFS config was unsuccessful. It said to "force" detection, so I tapped the detect button again and this time the config was found & restored!

Faster boot times - does the .xz unpacker run multiple threads now? It's substantially faster!

An Issue with AFP is preventing me setting up Time Machine (posted in the AFP forum).

Hello, I hope you did a "fresh install" then restore config file instead of a WebGUI upgrade from 10.x to 11.x, since the boot partition has been increased on 11.x releases (this may change again).

As for the faster boot time, latest NAS4Free 11.x now uses default(no compression) mdconfig module/RAM-disk instead the custom compression/swap aided xmdconfig module found in earlier versions, it was made to improve reliability on very low memory systems.

Yes, I did do a fresh install. I didn't restore config, just re-created it from scratch.

Why I didn't think to simply migrate the config I don't know!

Solved: the config.xml was damaged...
The <interfaces> section was missing, got no message :(

I did a fresh embedded install of this build, and imported my ZFS pool that I had been running on a Nas4free 9 version.

The only one thing that is annoying me right now, is it seems like after a short interval, like 30-60 minutes, the drives go through an initialization, like the array is just spinning up. Each drive led turns on and off in sequence, this even happens when it is doing a scrub. This never happened before, I only saw this sequence when the NAS was booting, or the drives spinning up. Any ideas? I don't see anything in the logs, and I disabled SMART just in case it was that (though I had that running in the V9).
