HP Gen8 is quit populair with some issues in general if i recall correct, make sure it's mbr formatted install.
Also embedded needs high quality usb sticks to avoid flash problems.
I have not seen flash issues on my systems and vm's yet so i can not reproduce errors you see.
I am with HP MS Gen8 too. The last 6 (six) upgrades of my embedded installation failed and I reported it in several postings here. I am using USB sticks that have been reported here to be good - SanDisk Cruzer Fit 16 GB. But they are GPT formatted. Do you thing that if they are MBR formatted it will solve my problems?
No i'm not sure but worth a try, but i know some could not boot at all if not mbr installed.
thats why i suggest for them mbr anyway.
I don't know what is the reason (fix in 5019 or your advice regarding MBR), but now I've upgraded successfully from 4578 to 5019 using Web Gui. I've changed the format of my boot USB from GPT to MBR and everything went smoothly.

Thank you, @zoon01 !

I have latest N4F embedded (5019) w/ 4GB RAM and no swap. My memory usage is usually around 50%.
Interesting. On 11.x I was running a ZFS mirror (no prefetch), and OBI with Ext Gui and using an 8GB USB drive that defaulted to 4GB swap. Memory would go to 90%+swap during a large file copy. How does that compare to yours?
When I reverted to 10.x, I was back to about 70% usage after a large file copy, even with ZFS prefetch enabled and the same default swap.
My x64 embedded setup w/ 4GB RAM is pretty simple:
2GB boot USB flash drive w/ no swap (UFS)
16GB USB flash drive (for pkg installs via unionfs_mount in tandem w/boot drive) (UFS)
1.5 TB HDD data drive (UFS)
1TB USB drive for scheduled rsync backup of data disk essentials (EXT3)

No ZFS, no mirrors. Your memory demands are greater than mine, which probably explains most of our differences in memory usage.

Yeah, that's probably it. At any rate, I'm back to 10.x for now, but FOMO'd.

Hi,

where is the "clear" command? Miss it since some releases...
Disks|Management|HDD Management (?)
i mean the clear command at the command line. to clear the screen.

Code: Select all

nas4free: ~# clear
clear: Command not found.

Is anyone else getting the

Code: Select all

/usr/local/bin/sudo: Undefined symbol "memset_s"
error in your jails when trying to sudo? If so, have you been able to fix it yet?

If not, could you post your N4F/Jail upgrade process; becasue apparently i'm doing it wrong

From the searches i have done it seems to be related to using an 11.1 compiled binary on a 11.0 system but everything seems to think it's 11.1 as far as i can tell.

Code: Select all

/
repl@backup 2$ file `which sudo`

/

All,

First off, Merry Christmas :)

I can no longer mount my smb shares on my Win 10 system. I am using Windows AD for authentication and receive the following errors in log file.
Previous version I was using is NAS4Free-x64-embedded-11.1.0.4.4528 which worked fine.

There was a similar issue with 4517:
mamisano, thanks for testing with samba 4.6.6 too, so it seems samba 4.6.7 kills ad for you.
I will downgrade to 4.6.6 and lets re-try again next month with samba 4.6.8 than.

Just updating my high memory situation going from 10.x to 11.x. in case a member searches on it in the future.
I'm now on the latest 11.x version and performing great after simply reducing the zfs_arc_max to 1.75G from the default 2G and confirming prefetch disabled. Now I have ~85% memory use without overrunning my 4 GB ECC memory to swap on my $10 flash.

Also getting near 90MB/s writes and 50MB/s reads after doubling the default snd/rec buffers, and enabling AIO and large R/W. Not bad for a lowly P4!
