Thanks for the update. Smooth install on 2 embedded machines. Noticed the '1 April joke' on the server shutdown (yes/no/maybe  :) which disappeared after 1st of April.

RootOnZFS upgraded from 6000, works fine. Only a little issue: the .cshrc was overwritten and I have lost my aliases written in the file.
After restoring it from the backup all works as expected.

Hi Maurizio, the RootOnZFS tar extraction process have the '--keep-newer-files' option, however if this file has been updated in the recent FreeBSD base, the older file will be updated regardless of the content, as unlike a native FreeBSD upgrade in which can merge file contents, this is more of a limitation.

Alternatively, either the user need to mount the previous Boot Environment to pull the modified file as you denoted, or add a cron to backup additional custom user files.

I spot a bug in the RootOnZFS Platform upgrade progress, loader.conf is overwritten, this should be backed up and restored by the rc.firmware and updates performed by sysrc when needed.

However unless the user have customized this files this is non-noticeable and harmless.

The bug has been fixed in latest beta but I will sent update for branch 11.2 upcoming days as the rc.firmware differs from trunk.

Sorry inconveniences

Regards

We are pleased to announce the release of XigmaNAS version 11.2.0.4.6625 - Omnius.
Upgrade worked on my two machines. Thanks for all the work!

Regarding this issue after some experimenting and testing and up- and downgrading it looks like it's a write speed issue of the thumb drive.

On NAS A I used a newer "version" of the thumb drive I use in NAS B as well. It looks like the new version only provides a very slow write speed after a bit of use. To me it seems like the combination of
- slow write speed of thumb drive (with the swap on it)
- XigmaNAS needing to use swap memory in some situations
- CIFS/SMB service being under quite a bit of stress due to a lot of writes/ reads
is leading to the problem.

After switching the thumb drive with a faster one I could only provoke the "UPS disconnect" messages but not the other issues.
For the time being I just limited the amount of RAM the ZFS is allowed to use.

ATM I'm pondering either buying really fast thumb drives or looking into PCIe-SSDs (or PCIe-to-M2 adapters).

Hello, sorry late answer as still busy testing extensively XigmaNAS BE Manager extension, as well as working on some Webmin modules.

This may be off-topic here but to also help newcomers in this regards.

From my personal opinion/experience, "buying really fast thumb drives" does not worth it for embedded Platforms, and for Full Platforms, a SATA 2.5" Laptop HDD/SSD may be much cheaper and in many cases free when pulled from older/retired computers, even the performance/longevity from an old 44PIN PATA/IDE 2.5" HDD is way superior than most USB sticks, and this 2.5" devices just uses +5VDC so the little power consumption is not an exception from buy/use them IMHO.

However if the system is plain hardware limited, e.g. just 4 SATA ports for Data, then a branded USB3.x may be an option even if plugged in to an USB2.0 HUB, unless the user want to experiment with USB to SATA/IDE converters if the server reliability is a priority.

Sorry for not posting relevant links, but this topic has been discussed previously here, so please take a look for install media recommendations.

Regards

Hi. this was fixed as for Revision 6626, Full Platforms users can fix this immediately, but also Embedded users can use a PostInit command for use this service as a workaround until next release.
