Import Jails manually created in old Nas4Free ?

#1

Post by madgabz » 16 Nov 2018 18:25

Hi there,
I've gone thru the pain of upgrading my nas4free server to latest xigmanas. I've postponed this for a LONG time, because of the hassle of upgrading all my jails (6 jails).
Installing the Brig I seem to only be able to make NEW jails, is there a manual way of semi-easily adding/importing existing jails to thebrig, and then upgrading them to use newer buildworld?
TIA,
MadGabZ
PS. I've already searched high and low, the nearest i got was this link: viewtopic.php?f=79&t=1654&p=16429&hilit ... ail#p16430

not tested but in theory jails can be saved as tarballs and then restored, please contact with Alexey123 because he is the actual guru of jails.

Thank you for the swift reply, Raul! I saw that the older versions of TheBrig had a 'rc.conf.local Migrator' that seemed to be most helpful in this regard, but i cant find it in the newest release of xigmanas, was it unstable/deemed unuasable? I guess this is directed at fsbruva/alexye, but any thoughts are highly appreciated!

See attached file.
If you check archive checkbox, jail will archive at work folder. You can use it as source for build new jail.
Please store jail's /etc/rc.conf, it will rewrite

rc.conf.local Migrator we used at first version of TheBrig for help migrate from wiki style jail to TheBrig.
Alcatraz branch have another method of create and work jails, we not use rc.conf or rc.conf.local for our jails, rc.conf Migrator cannot help you

Thanks for chipping in, Alexey! So, I have to tarball my current wiki style jails, saving their rc.conf's from /conf and from inside each jail? Then put tarballs in thebrigs working folder, and restore from there?
Do I understand this correctly?
TIA,
MadGabZ

not to restore, to create a new jail usig the previously saved tarball as source

tarball will have name something like backup_jail3_2018-11-19_00:25:02.txz

But, I think create and configure new jails is better way, if you migrate from 11.1 kernel or older
