Hylafax on Nas4free How?

#1

Post by ter77 » 12 Aug 2015 15:51

Hello,

I'm using Nas4free as basic samba share on windows home network.
My nas (old notebook) has also built in fax. Is it possible to add hylafax with package install ?

Thanks

ter77,

What N4F are you using? embedded version or full version? I think the key issue is whether your nb faxmodem is supported.
Production1: 11.2.0.4 (R6154) x64-embedded on AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 640 Processor 8G Non-ECC Ram ASUS M4A88T-M 2x2T + 1x4T
Production2: 11.2.0.4 x64-embedded on Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4570 CPU @ 3.20GHz 12G Non-ECC Ram ASUS B85M-G 3x2T
Test/Backup: 10.3.0.3.4372 x86-embedded on Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU 3040 @ 1.86GHz 4G Non-ECC Ram HP ML110 G4 2x160G

ter77,

I am now using embedded version with hylafax in jail (jail type: full). For installation of hylafax only, please try below in jail console:

pkg install -y metamail
pkg install -y hylafax
echo 'hylafax_enable="YES"' >> /etc/rc.conf
faxsetup (you need to set up hylafax and add faxmodem details in console, also see support your faxmodem)
chown -R uucp:dialer /var/spool/hylafax
chown root:wheel /var/spool/hylafax
chmod -R 755 /var/spool/hylafax
/usr/local/sbin/hylafax start

Then you can google how to use email to notify and attached pdf format fax.

ter77,

I do not follow this but read the topic [HOWTO] Install TheBrig - one Jail manager for N4F viewtopic.php?f=79&t=3894

However, now it is too long.

Or you may try below:

I use USB as system disk and HDD as data disk. I create and mount a directory "jail" in data disk such as /mnt/jail

Installation of thebrig:

Code: Select all

# cd /mnt/jail/
# fetch https://raw.githubusercontent.com/fsbruva/thebrig/alcatraz/thebrig_install.sh
# sh thebrig_install.sh /mnt/jail 3
Using thebrig to start base jail:

1. Go to Current Jails|Rudimentary config|:
installation folder /mnt/jail/
Basejail Location use default
then save
2. Go to Tarball Management, then press “Query!”
3. Select correct Release and tick a) base.txz, and, if your system is 64bit, also lib32.txz then press “Fetch!”
4. After download, there are official FreeBSD Flavor in “Existing Tarballs” under Tarball Management for building new jail.
5. In order to auto start the jail, at Jail
Globals
Allow start all jails: Yes
Select “0”

Create jail ready for installation of package

1. At Current Jails|TheBrig config to add

Jail parameters
Number: [1]
Jail name: [jailname]
Jail Type: Full
Start on boot : Enable
Path to Jail: [empty for default]
In Jail Allow: add all

Mounts
mount/umount : Enable
Enable mount devfs: Enable

Devfs ruleset: add path ‘cua*’ unhide (It is for modem and then check /dev whether your modem device is existed.)

Networking
Jail IP: [jail ip address]/24

Commands (Use command to run faxgetty)
Jail commands: Type: afterstart_for_jail ; Nice: 0 : Command: faxgetty -D cuaU0 [cuaU0 for my usb fax modem, you need to check your modem code]

Description: Jail for hylafax

Installation Source
select official FreeBSD Flavor (base and, if for 64b, lib32)

Then press “Add”
After complete, apply “Changes” & turn on the key in “Action” (ie run jail)

I then reboot N4F to check whether the jail is auto run.

ter77,

You should set up your jail ip in above "Networking" by manual input. First type and then click the button to add it.

ter77,

I may find the reasons your jail does not have ip address in on-line view even though you find it in the_brig config box. I find the problems are caused by:

1) no such modem in /dev even the jail has Devfs ruleset: add path ‘cua*’ unhide
My case is that it only save "add path" so no cua* is included. I need to check every time when I amend the jail.

2) before the set up hylafax but running Jail commands: [Type: afterstart_for_jail ; Nice: 0 : Command: faxgetty -D cuaU0], there is no ip address in the jail.

Therefore, you need to ensure your modem device is included in jail's /dev and then set up hylafax and faxmodem. After completion, put back Jail commands to ensure faxgetty is running.
