Permissions problem ?!?

Post by dsisson »

Hi, I'm a newbie, so please be gentle

I have set up nas4free on an old machine, installed 2 hard drives to do a ZFS raid.

I've chown and chmod through SSH. Everything is 777.

I am the owner of all directories and files. "Arch" is the group for all directories and files.

I have 3 users:

User E
User J

all 3 of us are members of group "Arch".

We keep bumping into problems where (through windows) we get errors of files being "read only" or "open on another computer".

It appears that either windows or nas4free is reading permissions only from windows, and not the unix 777 permissions. If I reset permissions through windows, AND clear the "read only" tag in windows, then the problem goes away...for a while...it then returns a day or two later.

I'm tearing my hair out with this. Please help.
