I did a clean install of 6315 - MBR embedded w/ no data or swap. In a recent previous release, if one wished to select the entire disk for the OS partition, one could simply enter "all" or "full" (or something to that effect - my memory's hazy). That option is gone. Please return in it in future releases.

This option is present in this release as well, between you can only select "all" to use all remaining space in the "Data" partition while you have to explicitly specify the size you want for the "OS"(Root) partition manually like shown below, anything above the default will save the user from a future re-install, unfortunately this options is nearly overlooked by the majority of Embedded users:
VirtualBox_XigmaNAS_23_12_2018_15_48_54.png
In the above screenshot I've manually set 4096(4GB) for the OS Root partition from its rather low 2048(2GB), this meant that wen the Embedded keep increasing on space and past the 4096(4GB) barrier, I have to re-install again due "partition size too small", so if you have an 16~32GB USB,HDD,SSD just don't hesitate to set here 4096 or even more for future proof.

Note: Bear in mind that this will not protect you from filesystem and/or hardware malfunction, in that case a re-install is the only way.

P.S Unless you plan on placing Swap on an alternate HDD/SSD, having a little 2GB native Swap partition on a USB 3.0 is better than nothing at all.

It would be nice to have the same option for the OS partition. It was there in an earlier release.

One of the big advantages of embedded is that the OS partition is hardly used after startup - ideal for a USB thumb drive. Adding a swap partition to it significantly increases the drive use.

Hello, don't worry about this warnings, simply ignore those for now, this may be due recent Samba changes and may be addressed on future Samba versions, nothing wrong with your current Samba settings nor XigmaNAS.

P.S My FreeBSD 12 box has the same similar warnings:

Code: Select all

I have tried upgrading via the GUI multiple times without success. Every time I get the message "The firmware is now being installed. The server will reboot automatically." Nothing happens. I have left it in this state for over 24 hours and still nothing. Nothing is logged in /var/log/ either.

Supermicro X11DPI-NT motherboard
2x Xeon 3104 6 Core CPU’s
32 GB DDR4 RAM
Dual 10Gbps NICs
2x Samsung USB 3.1 Flash Drive FIT Plus 32GB (boot mirror)

Firmware upgrade messages are displayed on the console screen by default. For example the output can be redirected to system.log by adding / modifying the following settings in System > Advanced > syslog.conf:

old problems:
redirect USB devices to Virtualbox VM-s (usb-1 mode very unstable, virtualbox can't stop VM-s, usb2.0 devices not work )
