Upgraded from 12.0.0.4.6928 went smoothly, however, lost the directories access from WIN10. Under Services used to be CIFS/SMB, now just SMB, enabled it didn't restore the connections. Can still use WinSCP to FTP once enabled, and all folders and files are still present. Would prefer not to roll back, just need to figure how to reconnect.

It seems to me above error is specific to upgrade image for full XigmaNAS installation.
For embedded one I see 4.10.10 Samba version.

Samba shipped is 4.10.10

Code: Select all

# smbd -V
Version 4.10.10
However, /usr/local/lib/samba/libldb.so.1 (plus some other libs shown above) were compiled against Samba 4.8.12 (or some other older versions). Obviously does not work.

Looked briefly for above files in both XigmaNAS 12.1.0.4.7091 emedded and full.

Not a single file was found in /usr/local/lib/samba directory.

Both XNAS instances:
  • were installed from scratch, without upgrading from the previous version,
  • have Samba service active without errors in a system log.
I assume that files listed are nothing more than remnants from previous versions that have not been removed during several upgrades.

This conversation leads nowhere. LDB is required for LDAP/AD integration in Samba. The copy shipped with XigmaNAS got out of sync with Samba update and needs fixing (recompile against the current Samba version). If it was relocated somewhere else, then the stale copy must be deleted on upgrade so that it does not get picked up by Samba binaries linking. End of story.

Appears to be caused by https://sourceforge.net/p/xigmanas/code/7018/. The fastest "fix" seems to be

Code: Select all

mv /usr/local/lib/samba/libldb.so.1 /usr/local/lib/samba/libldb.so.1.old
/etc/rc.d/samba restart
The obsoleted files list obviously needs some additions.

Was there anything you had done? I reverted back to 12.0.0.4.6928 and my WIN10 shares worked fine. Then back to 12.1.0.4.7091, restored configuration, still not able to access WIN10 shares.

Just upgraded to 7091 and noticed it broke my AD authentication

Turns out when I SSH into the box I can't ping my DC with their names

Ping just sits there blank this also does it for any external name. It's like the DNS lookup is broken

In the general system tab I do have my DNS entry filled

Additional update. resolv.conf is missing all my DNS entries. So I retyped them in via the WebGUI and it will put them in the resolv.conf. HOWEVER, after the restart the entries from resolv.conf is gone again. The only work around I have right now is to edit the resolv.conf and then restart the NIC interface manually in SSH.

Please fix!

only version lower than 6625 must do a full install, upgrade must work, but please save your actual config in a safe place to do a full install in case that upgrade fail.

Important information for users running on a lower version than XigmaNAS 11.2.0.4.6625

Please download the LiveCD/USB image to create a new boot media.
We do not recommend an in-place upgrade via the firmware update page because of recent changes to the partition layout.
First, download your configuration file from the backup/restore page and save it. Then backup all other data partitions that exist on the boot media.
Now you can perform a fresh installation from the LiveCD/USB. After a successful installation, you should restore your previously saved configuration.

Successfully upgraded embedded installation from 12.0.0.4.6928 to 12.1.0.4.7091. No issues so far. The most interesting and happy thing is that the weird bootloader messages described in this post viewtopic.php?f=78&t=14823#p92017 disappeared.

Thank You. However my next YouTube video (the last in my new server build - Channel PE4Doers) is pending having Samba AD on XigmaNAS working, so I will try 11.3 and upgrade in the future when a 'fixed' 12.X is released. I really do appreciate all your help and rapid responses - thanks again.

Thank you doktornoto, I actually did try resolving the problems with the suggestions here, however they did NOT work for my situation. Maybe it something to do with my inability to actually get 'Initialize' to work the first time due to the missing libraries. Some of the file manipulations suggested seem to assume SambaAD was working at some point prior to 12.1, mine is a New install. I think it is best to try to go back to 11.3 (or even 11.2) just to get it up and running. I will the consider a version upgrade once I am past the deadlines I currently face - unless someone with vast experience with this problem believes I will have the same problem after backing up to an earlier release. Thanks again however, your taking the time to help on this is very appreciated.
