Notice about Plex HW transcode options menu.

It looks like VAAPI drivers requires python3, so I will postpone the in-GUI features until python3 is added into XigmaNAS base which is very soon.

In the mean time, Full platforms users can easily enable this with a PostInit script optimized for your hardware.

Dear All,

I updated my Xigmanas on the last version : XigmaNAS 11.2.0.4.6737 - released

Now when nas boots I have the following messages on my screen at the last steps of the boot:
syrc : unknown variable "plexmediaserver_enable"
syrc : unknown variable "plexmediaserver_support_path"
syrc : unknown variable "plexmediaserver_maxplugins"

No information in Log file.

I updated Plex : plexmediaserver-1.15.6.1079 Plex Media Server component

I reboot

Always this messages at boot.

Any idea is welcome.

Hi ernie, thanks for reporting, I have also reproduced this issue.

Since latest Plex changes, they removed the compat9/10/11x and they made several internal changes as well, I will make this variables to be only checked/used on versions lower than v1150573, so expect a version update to 4.3.004 in few mins.

Update

I open Plex and all my data disappear on Plex interface...
It seems that update lost my configuration of Plex.

How can I find the configuration and solve the point ?

Hi ernie, I will have a look into the plex rc.d and see/compare what are the new changes/additions in the new Plex app to fix this issues asap.

Hi ernie this has been fixed for as of version 4.3.005, I just added -q to sysrc, all else stays the same as per see in the plex rc.

Sorry inconvenience.

Updated to 4.3.006 for Minor wording changes as well.

EDIT: There are still problems with the plex extension and the rc.conf not being written, please do not reinstall as I will debug and solve this miss behavior asap.

EDIT: rc parameters not being written issue is fixed on version 4.3.007 "Always create plex rc parameters."

Hello,

I updated plex extension to 4.3.007. Then a reboot and all is fine now.
A stop and start of plex is not enough that is why I rebooted.

Thanks Jose

Thanks ernie for reporting the bug is fixed, between you can execute "plexinit" in the shell(without switches) and the script will initialize the extension environment as well without rebooting server.

Again thank you and sorry inconvenience.

I seriously hope i'm not re-asking a question already answered.

I updated to the latest extension and latest plex media server but the plex server is showing up as 1.16.0.1226 even thought the current plex version is: 1.16.1.1291 and it's telling me to upgrade.

is this a known issue where the repository is always behind? is there a manual way to get around this?

please let me know

thanks!

BSD version is always a bit late than plex version, so you always see a simmilar message.

when plex say that a new version is ready, you need to wait 7 to 10 days normally to try to update .

This time is the rasonable time that volunteers need to recompile for BSD and post in the repositories.

I recently had this problem when using an older flavor of Nas4free. I *think* something in the latest plex media server requires something in a newer build of Xigmanas.

I recently updated plex, and now plex won't start. Always showing as STOPPED and blank PID.
I am running an older N4F 11.1.0.4 - Atomics (revision 4952), x64-full on Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1265L V2 @ 2.50GHz , HP ProLiant MicroServer Gen8
Do I need to install a newer Xigmanas build or is there something else I should do?

I also recently updated the Plex extension to 4.3.007 in nas4free 10.2 and it stopped working.
In ssh, plexinit -s reported success but the status in gui stayed stopped.

Upgraded to XigmaNAS 11.2, still wouldn't start.
Updated Plex again, this time it upgraded from plex server 1.12 to 1.16, still wouldn't start.
Dropped to ssh and ran plexinit -s and it gave a permissions error.
Re-ran it as root and this time it started and is running ok now.

But: in the extension web gui only the Save button is enabled; the start/stop buttons are all disabled, which seems a bit weird. But otherwise it seems to be working ok now.

I bit the bullet and installed XigmaNAS 12, all seems to be working except the I lost my plex server settings.
The only way could get Plex installed was to tick the re-install option, then use the OBI file cleanup option.
Then I could install plex anew, but the backup folder is not there. I'm guessing the file cleanup removed that too (my bad not to copy it first).
So plex is working, and is rebuilding from scratch the libraries.

Might be worth mentioning that after the upgrade from 10.2 to 11.2 (and plex 1.12 to 1.16), once everything was starting again I clicked on the plex management link and it did the "first time setup" stuff again (asking for plex login and setting library folders).

It did remember my previous settings, though, so I could just click Next without changing anything and it worked ok. Though I did need to re-enable scheduled library rescans. Not sure if it was the update which disabled that or something else.

Welcome.

Do not delete anything under "/usr/local" that will just break the system, just reboot that server and re-try the upgrade by either Plex Extension GUI or CLI.

The Plex Extension is designed to create symlinks to point to permanent data locations in Embedded platforms, so make sure the extension is properly installed in such location, also if the location name has been changed, you may need to edit the extension(s) PostInit commands to point for the right path.

The sample below show the symlinks pointing to the Data partition of an default Embedded installation:

Code: Select all

xigmanas: ~# ls -l /usr/local/share | grep plex
lrwxr-xr-x   1 root  wheel    37 Aug 26 00:15 locale-plex -> /mnt/Data/extensions/plex/locale-plex
lrwxr-xr-x   1 root  wheel    48 Aug 26 00:10 plexmediaserver -> /mnt/Data/extensions/plex/system/plexmediaserver
xigmanas: ~#
Regards

P.S.
Note to previous posters, please always try to use latest XigmaNAS releases instead of EOL products in order to get faster/better support.

Ooops

I deleted a couple folder in the /usr/local/shared/ folder because I though I installed the extensions a while back and removed it.
The folder that I deleted:

I am trying to get Hardware Acceleration working in my XigmaNAS 12.0.0.4.6766 installation. I have updated the Plex Media Server and plugin to the latest version as of this post. I have an Intel Core i5 3570K CPU on an Asus P8H61-I R2.0 motherboard with 16GB RAM. From what I can tell looking through documentation, my CPU supports Quick Sync, therefore is supported by Plex. According to the Intel support page, my CPU has HD4000 integrated graphics. I have ticked the check box to “Use hardware acceleration when available” on the Home -> Settings -> Transcoder page, yet viewing the Activity -> Dashboard page, my CPU is not hardware transcoding. I have done some searching and found this:

->pkg search libva
libva-2.5.0 VAAPI wrapper and dummy driver
libva-glx-2.5.0 VAAPI wrapper for GLX
libva-intel-driver-2.3.0_4 VAAPI legacy driver for Intel GMA 4500 (Gen4) or newer
libva-intel-hybrid-driver-1.0.2_2 Hybrid VP8 encoder and VP9 decoder for Intel GPUs
libva-intel-media-driver-19.3.p1 VAAPI driver for Intel HD 5000 (Gen8) or newer
libva-utils-2.5.0_2 Collection of tests and utilities for VAAPI
libva-vdpau-driver-0.7.4_9 VDPAU-based backend for VAAPI
libvanessa_adt-0.0.9_1 Library that provides ADTs (queues, dynamic arrays, and more)
libvanessa_logger-0.0.10_1 Library that provides a generic logging layer
libvanessa_socket-0.0.12_1 Library that provides a simple layer for TCP/IP socket operations

I think the Plex extension has added the required drivers for hardware transcoding, but I have to wonder if a driver for my integrated GPU is not made available by the Plex extension. I notice the libva-intel-driver-2.3.0_4 says it supports HD4500 on Gen4 CPUs and libva-intel-media-driver-19.3.p1 says it supports HD5000 on Gen8 CPUs, but I don’t see a driver for HD4000 for Gen3 CPUs, even though Gen2 CPUs and newer are supported.

Is there something I can do to resolve this? Is this something the Plex extension can be modified to do?

I have also posted this on the Plex forums. A helpful guy over there suggested I install the most recent drm-kmod package. So I checked to see if something is there:

->pkg search drm-kmod
drm-kmod-g20190710 Metaport of DRM modules for the linuxkpi-based KMS components

It looks to be already installed, and since the date 2019-07-10 is newer than the XigmaNAS build date of 2019-06-19, I think the Plex extension has installed this for me. I'm not sure what to do, does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Hi Flappjakk, the Plex Extension does not currently provides/install hardware transcoding drivers or utilities, however there are few users having some success running Plex(either through the extension or installed by hand) with hardware transcoding enabled in XigmaNAS Full Platforms, especially the Full RootOnZFS Platform, between I have plans to add h/w transcode support to the Plex Extension in future 12.x stable releases versions.

I will post below some options in order of easiest to more advanced that you can try at the moment:

Option #1:
Install XigmaNAS Full RootOnZFS then restore your config as usual, and make sure all is working as you expect first, including shares extensions etc, then wen you confirm all is working as expected you can install the "BE Manager Extension" and create a new "Boot Environment" called something like "plex_transcode_setup" or alike, then Activate it and reboot, this will leave your previous nicely working environment untouched.

After reboot into this new BE, you can use the pkg command to install and play with the Plex transcoding drivers and rc configuration, and if you manage to screw the system, simply rollback to the previous BE, delete the failed attempt and try again until you are good to go, after success you can rename the BE to your like.

Option #2:
If running a Full Platform already, then create and configure a simple shared IP Plex jail, you can use the existing extension TheBrig(GUI), or use a much modern jail manager such as IOcage or Bastille(but is CLI for now) then install and configure Plex and the transcoding drivers as you normally do on FreeBSD.

Option #3:
If you want to stay with the Embedded route, then you can try using as previously mentioned TheBrig jail manager, or download and extract the required transcoding drivers for your system, then write a shell script customized for your system in order to symlink or replace the needed files etc. at postinit.

Note that if you go with the jail route you don't need the Plex Extension GUI at all.

Regards
System: FreeBSD 12 RootOnZFS, MB: Supermicro X8SI6-F, Xeon X3450, 16GB DDR3 ECC RDIMMs.
