I also recently updated the Plex extension to 4.3.007 in nas4free 10.2 and it stopped working.
In ssh, plexinit -s reported success but the status in gui stayed stopped.

Upgraded to XigmaNAS 11.2, still wouldn't start.
Updated Plex again, this time it upgraded from plex server 1.12 to 1.16, still wouldn't start.
Dropped to ssh and ran plexinit -s and it gave a permissions error.
Re-ran it as root and this time it started and is running ok now.

But: in the extension web gui only the Save button is enabled; the start/stop buttons are all disabled, which seems a bit weird. But otherwise it seems to be working ok now.

I'm still experiencing this issue (it's running 1.18 now). When the NAS reboots, Plex doesn't start automatically (despite it being enabled in rc.conf). When I go to the extension page, it shows STOPPED and only the Save button is enabled, but it does have the correct path to Plex.

If I open ssh and run plexinit -s then it does start the server and the extension page does update to say that it's running and shows the PID, but the start/stop buttons are still disabled.

I even tried running plexinit -x; plexinit, or using the gui uninstall/install buttons to reinstall; no change. (It's evidently remembering something across the reinstall though because it kept the same path without prompting.)

Any ideas?

It's an Embedded install running from a HDD, yes. I'm not sure exactly where the extension itself is installed, but the Plex instance is installed in a (I think) non-ZFS share on the same HDD. (The actual video files are in a ZFS share on a separate HDD.)

Not sure about permissions off the top of my head (it's actually installed at someone else's house, so I only have access to it periodically) but it's able to install and upgrade ok other than this GUI/autostart issue so I don't think that's the problem.


Another slightly odd thing is that the OneButtonInstaller page complains that it can't contact github.com, but it was still able to update its package list and reinstall Plex ok. It's possible that I have an out-of-date version of that, if it doesn't auto-update.

I don't remember seeing this checkbox actually appear (though it does display the installation path). And if I'm reading the rest of the code correctly, it will disable the buttons if that checkbox isn't ticked.

Ok, apparently I'm just blind. The checkbox was there, in the top-right corner where nobody looks. Ticking that and hitting SAVE has enabled the buttons now. Haven't tried rebooting but I assume that was the issue with that too.

Hello, thanks for report back that Plex Ext. is working for you, I quick tested but can't reproduced here on later releases.
As for the underlying extension code, it is a bit older compared to more recent XigmaNAS code standards but I plan to make an overall extension update soon.

I was able to reproduce this Enable box issue on XigmaNAS 12.1 , so I did fixed the checkbox issue on version 4.3.009 in the mean time.

Hello. I'm still kind of hitting the aforementioned problem on Extension version 4.3.009 and XigmaNAS 12.0.0.4.6928. Plex starts up after a reboot, but on the extension page only the Save button is available, all others are greyed out. The "Enabled" checkbox is not checked and even after checking it and pressing Save, it refreshes the page and stays unchecked.

The enable checkbox, change and persistence has been fixed as for version 4.3.010, please hit Upgrade button under maintenance tab.

Feedback would be appreciated if fixed for you, I've tested under XigmaNAS 12.1(RC2) and Firefox v70.0 x64.

I am experience a bug again on another XigmaNas Server with latest update of Plex. after a hard reset to server i can no longer start Plex service. i have re-check config, flush cache, restart server normaly, fsck drive nothing! See some screen. Many thanks

PS. On my main server i didn't try to reproduce the error, because i don't want to lose both connection. any help much appreciated. on first bug with missing buttons i can tell that PLEX is initiated after restart and hard reset.Thank you!

Hi, can you try start the Plex service from CLI by executing "plexinit -s" and write down any error encountered.

After such hard reset, the Extension script need to re-link the Plex environment again and should start automatically, however if the paths has been changed then the PostInit command also need to be updated under Advanced > Command scripts.

P.S. Another thing may be that that after the reset if the OS major version has lowered, the older Plex program may need to be deleted and let the extension fetch latest files available for that version, but be aware that "plexdata" can be left untouched. if after that still don't work, the plex "preferences.xml" file may need to be renamed to "preferences.xml.old" and set again the initial per-configuration of the server.

Hi, NAS4Free 10.x is an EOL product and support has been recently dropped in the "plexinit" script to support from 11.0 and later versions, since XigmaNAS changes in PHP constantly, recent Plex compatXYZ removal etc., so upgrading to a later/supported XigmaNAS version is the best solution.

However users wanting to unlock the "plexinit" script to run the Plex Extension on legacy EOL products without any guarantee/support, can simply edit the following section in the "plexinit" script to allow versions down to 10.0 in this example:

Change from this:

To this:

If the Plex extension work on such legacy setup after modify, then the Plex Extension postinit command may need edit to auto-update it in case the user Upgrade the Extension files, here is an example(edit path accordingly):

Note: Be aware that legacy PHP code in the Extension files are being cleaned slowly such as legacy postinit command creation/removal etc. so the best recommendation is to Upgrade to a later/supported XigmaNAS version whenever possible.

Hi, I'm afraid you need to edit this file manually from the command line of from the built-in editor in NAS4Free WebGUI, also you need to reference to your own paths.

Just try to find the below code in the plexinit script and change the "110" to "100", and if works do not Upgrade the Extension again:

Looks like you also need to install the older plexmediaserver package manually as well, that should still reside in /var/cache/pkg if you haven't cleaned that out.

P.S Any reason to stay with the 10.3 EOL product and not to upgrade to at least 11.3 instead?
