network share no longer accessible

#1

Post by nixIT » 30 Sep 2019 18:58

Hello all,

I have a Popcorn Hour C-200 device, and it's been connected to my XigmaNAS for about 5 years with no problem. my PCH has worked flawlessly connected to my XigmaNAS with both Samba (CIFS) and NFS.

All of a sudden last night (with no updates) I could no longer play a movie that was located on my XigmaNAS. I could still access my backup NAS (QNAP) from my PCH, just not my XigmaNAS.

I could connect (via NFS) from my linux machine to my XigmaNAS with no problem. This morning I updated my XigmaNAS from 11.2.0.4 - Omnius (revision 6625) to XigmaNAS 11.2.0.4.6881, that did not help.

Then, from my PCH, I removed the shares and tried to re-add them, no dice can't access at all.

If I manually create the share on my PCH, whenever I try to access my share folder I am prompted to enter my credentials, which doesn't seem to work. I can use the same credentials from another computer and it works fine.

I then use the PCH network connection tool, it maps the share as NFS, when it will allow me to view and navigate the folder structure, but it will not play a file.

Couple of questions...

1) what version of Samba does XigmaNAS default to? I have my CIFS server set up as Samba 3, that's what's been working.
2) what version of NFS does XigmaNAS use?
3) if I update to 12.0.0.4.6881 would that solve the problem? if so, what's the best way to update from version 11.x to 12.x?

Any help is appreciated, I am currently dead in the water babysitting, with nothing to distract the young ones.

thanx

popcorn probably use NT1 so please search forums about NT1 related problems.

Thanx for the reply, I will look into this, though I think I knew about it which is why it was set to NFS for the last few years with no issue. I have NFS set up so it's using NFS 3. NFSv4 is unchecked.

While I look into this, why would this work for 4-5 years and then just NOT work for no reason when trying to play a movie?

deleted my nfs mount points in XigmaNAS and set up only 1 mount point for testing, I can access it from my desktop (linux), but same thing from my PCH, in the logs I get
mountd[9998]: mount request denied from 192.168.0.111 for /movies:
mountd[9998]: mount request from 192.168.0.111 for non existent path /movies:
my exports file:

Code: Select all

more /etc/exports
/mnt/nasPool1/theatre/movies -maproot=root -network 192.168.0.0/24
any ideas what could have happened? where else should I look? I've never had anything like this all of a sudden not work when nothing has been updated.

thanx!

Thanx for the reply, I get mount point denied for /theatre

Since it just all of a sudden stopped working from this one device, I have to say it may be the device. I could connect to the XigmaNAS from my wifes SP5 via NFS with no problem, as well as any other device I have is no problem.

It's just odd that after 10 years, this device stopped connecting to this one NAS. It still connects to my Qnap via NFS fine.

I've posted a message in their forum as well. I am also checking out Raspberry Pi's to put Kodi on.

so it wasn't my popcorn hour. I replaced it with a Pi4 running kodi, and kodi only sees the backup server.

I am puzzled how 3 machines can see the primary and backup nas, while two others can only see the backup nas,

out of a crazy notion, I check ntp, and made sure all times were synced.

any ideas on what I can look into? not sure what to look for in the logs.

I upgraded recently from an ancient N4F 9 to XN 12.0 and I have lost all access to my NFS shares from Kodi. Also adding new shares doesnt work.
There's something fishy here...

revise if you still use NT1 share and how to enable it on XigmaNAS (lot of post about it).

Isn't NT1 related to SMB and not to NFS?

sorry, you are right, NFS is not related to NT1.

Ok, Forget my last post.
