Unable to get or put file from TFTP server - despite it running.

I'm trying to setup tftp service for the first time in order to get a pxe environment setup (I'm using DDWRT to provide DHCP option - working fine) . Instructions seem straightforward, so I was testing to make sure it worked at each step of the setup, but unable to get tftp to work.

Tftp Service appears to be running from both from services tab (Services->TFTP->Service Status: Yes) and also from the diagnostics of sockets
Diagnostics > Information > Sockets

Code: Select all

root     tftpd      2277  4  udp4   *:69                  *:*
root     tftpd      2277  5  udp6   *:69                  *:*
I've tried different client apps in case it was a problem with the client app, I checked the firewall on the client PC in case there were firewall issues on the client PC.
I upgraded to the latest version of Xignmnas in case there was an issue with a particular version (from 12.0.0.4 6766 to rev 6928)
I overrode the default in the Services->TFTP->Port to 69 in case default value was not being picked up.

So for example

Code: Select all

C:\Users\admin>tftp 192.168.2.11 get test.txt
 Connect request failed
This Times out after around 40secs shows up in the Diagnostics->Log as follows:

Code: Select all

Oct 10 09:30:21	nas	1 2019-10-10T09:30:21.941086+00:00 nas.inet tftpd 6837 - - RRQ from 192.168.2.15 filename test.txt

So I thought I would try

Code: Select all

C:\Users\admin>tftp 192.168.2.11 put newtest.txt
 Connect request failed
This comes back with the following

Code: Select all

Oct 10 09:32:09	nas	1 2019-10-10T09:32:09.618952+00:00 nas.inet tftpd 6863 - - WRQ from 192.168.2.15 filename newtest.txt

Oct 10 09:32:32	nas	1 2019-10-10T09:32:32.619079+00:00 nas.inet tftpd 6868 - - WRQ from 192.168.2.15 filename newtest.txt
Oct 10 09:32:40	nas	1 2019-10-10T09:32:40.619801+00:00 nas.inet tftpd 6869 - - WRQ from 192.168.2.15 filename newtest.txt
Oct 10 09:32:48	nas	1 2019-10-10T09:32:48.619658+00:00 nas.inet tftpd 6870 - - WRQ from 192.168.2.15 filename newtest.txt
Whats also strange is that a file called newtest.txt is created on the expected folder on the server but 0 bytes sized file.

To note I had set Services->tftp->Allow new files: checked

Its as if the process to get or put a file starts but doesn't complete the task.

So is this a known problem?

Are there any other/extended logs that I can check? or any binaries that I can swap to check in case its a corrupted executable, and btw I had never heard of OMV before, but researched , sounds very interesting - especially with the facility for add-ons

I've quickly configured tftp and it's working fine:
tftp.png

Code: Select all

xigmanas: tftp# ll
total 17433
-rw-rw-rw-  1 root  wheel  17833998 Nov 24  2015 10cc.flac
xigmanas: tftp#
Download file

Code: Select all

$ tftp
tftp> connect 192.168.0.256
tftp> get 10cc.flac
Received 17976103 bytes in 11.2 seconds
tftp> quit
Overwrite existing file

Code: Select all

$ tftp
tftp> connect 192.168.0.256
tftp> put 10cc.flac
Sent 17976103 bytes in 14.2 seconds
tftp> quit
Send new file

Code: Select all

$ tftp
tftp> connect 192.168.0.256
tftp> put 11cc.flac
Sent 17976103 bytes in 10.8 seconds
tftp> quit
