tape backup agent install?

#1

Post by txtwincam » 14 Jan 2020 15:53

I'm using Backup Exec and backing up shares via user/password to tape. Using an agent would allow me to backup system files and configs as well. Has anyone installed a backup agent?

What are the benefits of this method in comparison of "zfs snapshot send/receive"?

really good question. Ive never used it. The only way Ive backed up the data is by share. My guess, is by agent, you would get a copy of live data?

Is it about "strimmer"?
what is it "live data"?
Snapshot is copy of file system condition at exact moment. As I correctly understand a back up using zfs snapshots is "discrete".

Agent vs. snapshot. Both take copies of live data. I like the agent method as it will interface with Backup Exec application I have running on my backup server. Agent would also make restoring data easier too in the event of DR. I can restore thru the backup console once agent is installed.
