SAMBA Issue with 11.3.0.4.7538

#1

Post by iaurkano »

Hello All and thank's for all work done,

I'm using a NAs4Free Nas since severals years for personal use, it was updated 2 times from v9 to v10 and now from V10 to XigmaNas V11.

It's diy NAS with an embedded installation with 4 disk using ZFS in RaidZ2. I'am using services NFS, syncthing (that's why i had to upgrade recently), and this f*** SMB for my Windows and android Clients.

Since the last upgrade, SMB does not work. The service is alive, it's correctly started but my client cannot connect to smb share. I try, windows, android and Linux, it's always the same result, an error message on the client side

: " Server Share list not available : invalid argument".

My conf does not change, and it worked on Nas4Free V10. I don't change host allow and host deny, so it's empty, and i activaded anonymous acces without pass to try but nothing works.

Do you have an idea ! is there any problem with the new version ?

thank's for your reply.

No other idea because it is the only difference between v9, v10 and v11 and v12.

Check your share under Samba anyway.

@iaurkano--

Have you checked to make sure that the smbd service is starting correctly, *AND* binding to the network interface without error?

A while back, during an upgrade --and, for reasons I still can't determine-- one of my XigmaNAS systems dropped out of CIFS/SMB constellation.
I nearly pulled my hair out trying to find the problem.

Eventually, I "downgraded" to try and fix the problem, but then it was still broken in the downgraded system.
I narrowed it down to the smbd service failing to start (really, failing to bind to the selected interface).

The way I fixed it was to go to the Services -> SMB page in the administration web portal; choose to "Edit" the settings (by clicking the button at the bottom left of the page); in the "Interface Selection" row, pick *anything* different than the default selection (which is probably "LAN Only" before you change it); then "Apply" the SMB settings (at the bottom left).
*REBOOT* the server.
Return to the Services -> SMB page, select "Edit" again, and --this time-- select the interface that you *actually* want [in my case, it was "LAN Only"] and "Apply" the settings.
*REBOOT* the server again.

Now, try and see if the smbd service has started correctly (by checking the log files and or diagnostic commands), and --hopefully-- it should be working again.

YMMV ... but this worked for me.

Oh, by the way, once I stumbled across this fix action I was able to re-try the upgrade and it worked PERFECTLY.
(I think there must have been some sort of solar flare or weird tron that made the smbd service driver lose its mind........)

Anyway, I am hopeful that maybe this will help you.
Good luck!

Cheers,
